First trip to A&E <<<sob>>>

Went to my friend's for coffee this morning after we dropped our kids off at school and ds2 (2 a week ago) tripped over his own feet and split his head open on the corner of her coffee table. So much blood, and a gaping red mouth in the middle of his forehead. Called a taxi, took him to A&E which was mercifully quiet, and they glued his head back together (better than stitches apparently, as little ones don't worry at them).

He's fine, will have a scar but I'm still shaking and keep bursting into tears. My poor friend feels awful, but it could have happened anywhere, I know that.

He's asleep now (A&E said no need to try and keep him awake, just keep an eye on him) but when we got back he was careering round the room as usual, crashing into things, tripping over toys etc., and my heart was in my mouth. How long will I be a nervous wreck?

Festivefly · 18/12/2003 14:42

Oh marthamoo, how horrible, it happens though! Hope your nerves have calmed down a bit. Where did you take him i was there this morning!

HappyHollyHulababy · 18/12/2003 14:44

Oh, pur you and your DS No doubt you will be far more concerned about this than he is. I am sure he will be fine soon, but so scary isn't it? Try not to worry now. He'll mend and that glue is supposed to be good at its job.

Take care.

Poor you marthamoo - hope it's better soon. My dd1 did exactly the same with a table in the maternity unit while I was at an ante-natal appointment! We didn't have far to go to A&E!

Your poor ds merrymarthamoo, hopefully you will see that he is just fine and you will no longer be a nervous wreck. My ds has been to A&E a few times (please all do gooders out there, I'm not a bad parent!) but you can't help but feel guilty like it is your fault. Accidents do happen and as long as you act quickly and calmly all usually turns out fine. First time ds went to A&E he was with my mum and he was about 18 months and climbing the concrete steps to her door. He had hold of her hand but missed his footing slipped and banged his nose on the step. I rushed from work straight to the hospital where he had butterfly stitches and he is now 4 and still has a very small scar on his nose. He has bashed his knee and had a bump the size of a golf ball on his knee cap and had to have his leg bandaged, screamed the place down when he had to have his kneecap xrayed. I felt guilty both times but he is fine now and I used to hate walking down the street with him with his black eyes and bruised nose from the first fall because I felt that I needed a sign saying "I didn't do this to him, he fell!" but I hope your little one is back to normal and by the sounds of it he is.

poor you. My DD did exactly the same at the same age. She is 4 now and still has a little scar but she is really proud of it and calls it her "harry potter" scar, when her brothers annoy her, she screws up her face and makes it "glow" at them. See-there is a bright side

merrymarthamoo · 18/12/2003 18:03

Thanks all He seems fine, he's a bit tearful now but I think he's just letting us know he's had a bad day. Miggy, that's what the nurse at A&E said - that he'd have a Harry Potter scar (and he's called Harry too).

FF, we were at Macc. DGH - is that where you were too?

Marthamoo, I know what you mean about going to casualty, I was there last week with my dd, she slipped and banged her head, when I got there I was told I would be waiting about 1 and a half hours, but, we were seen and on our way home within 20 minutes, and, like your ds, she was charging round the room and climbing all over everything.

If that had been me I would have been in bed wanting everyone to feel sorry for me.

My dd was clingy for couple of days, so you might find that the ds.
