Dental Braces

My dd1 had braces fitted, she had double train tracks, when they were taken off there were still some gaps in the top jaw so the orthodontist gave her a removeable brace. She had to wear this every night in bed, this was to close the gaps and she was given a plastic/silicone? guard type retainer for her lower jaw.

In March this year her orthodontist left the practise, in April we went back for what turned out to be her last appointment. We saw a different orthodontist who checked her removable brace tightened it up and told her to wear it every other night. Then after about a month if her teeth felt ok to then miss two nights etc. And then discharged her.

Dd has been doing this religiously as she's very happy with the way her teeth have turned out after the braces but one of the middle teeth in her top jaw has started to move, it's as if the removeable brace is still trying to close gaps that aren't there anymore and pushing this tooth out of alignment.

I'm planning on phoning the orthodontist on Monday morning but I wondered if anyone elses child, or yourself have been discharged from an orthodontist with a removeable brace after treatment?

Her friend also had braces around the same time and she now has the plastic/silicone retainers for both top and bottom teeth. I never had braces as a child so I have no idea what the usual situation is.

I'm kind of panicking because we were told that if the removeable brace broke or wore out I'd need to pay for a new one, now obviously I don't have a problem if that were the case but I'm wondering now if she should have been given this plastic retainer for the top teeth before being discharged.

Can anyone advise?

Is this private or on the NHS?

I don't understand them discharging before treatment was finished. Confused. Either way I think you're in rights to demand to see orthodontist again.

It was NHS. When we saw the new orthodontist for what turned out to be the last appointment she checked dd's teeth tightened the removable brace and said that this would be the last appointment as you only get 1 years follow up of appointments after the braces are taken off, so that was it.

I didn't have braces as a child so I have no idea if she should have been given this other retainer or not.

I would have thought she should have been given a retainer, I had braces a few years ago and I have retainers to sleep in.
