Does your child have a TV in their room?

DD (9.5) thinks I'm very unreasonable because I won't let her have a TV in her bedroom. She has a PC, so is able to watch DVDs, but no telly. What's the situation in your house?

No and will avoid one until the absolute latest I can leave it

shimmy21 · 11/03/2006 23:45

No and wont until both dss are enormous grunting spotty yoofs and dh and I are a little old couple watching Antiques Road Show very loud Smile

no and he never will. This idea of having to have television in every room is ludicress imo. I grew up in South Africa and there you have to have a TV licence for every tv you own so needless to say televisions in bedrooms was something which simply didn't happen.

My Mil is a governor at a primary school and she's constantly telling stories of teachers saying how many children are falling asleep in their classes because they've been up all night watching tv and their parents have no idea.

my DS is 3 so way too young anyway but certainly won't be getting one till he's at least 16. and same goes for mobile phones but that's another discussion

No, and they will never have one. I also expect them to share a room until they are teenagers. I think I take the Evil Parent prize.

asproclear · 12/03/2006 07:46

yes, BUT she never watches TV as the reception is so terrible and it really only gets used when a friend comes for a sleepover to watch a video on. She prefers to sit downstairs with me and watch a dvd or TV, dd is 6.2

BudaBabe · 12/03/2006 08:33

No - DS is 4.5.

He thought all his birthdays had come together at Xmas when we put a TV and DVD player in his room for while his cousins were staying - purely so that they could all be in there and watch a movie if they wanted. The day they left we removed it again!!!

Don't have a tv in my bedroom either!

jambuttie · 12/03/2006 08:52

ds1 (4) has tv,dvd, video and sky in his room

dt's(2) have tv,dvd and video in theres

this way they can all watch what they want whilst playing with their toys

charliecat · 12/03/2006 08:59

yes, no aerial, videos only. They watch a vid once/twice a week.

WickedViperWitch · 12/03/2006 09:04

No tv here and ds won't be allowed to either, I want to control what he watches. He's 8.

rummum · 12/03/2006 09:07

Yes mine have
DD is 9 and DS is 7... they have the tv video combi's.. they have timers so if they are watching something I can set the timer for when it ends and the tv will go off.. bedtime...vola. especially if you move the remote control so they can't find them....
Son has lights out at 8pm, daughter 9pm daughter has been known to switch hers back on, but moving the remote works...

Mine do - although they are older 17, 14 (boys who share) and dd who's 12. The boys had theirs at about 9 I think but dd had hers much younger.

Radley · 12/03/2006 09:24

both my dd's have a tele in their room, but, don't have and aerial so they can only watch dvd's and videos. Biggest mistake in my opinion, I wish we had never bought them.
