DS hurt himself in Debenhams today

Ds aged 2 was walking behind me when we entered a Debenhams store today. He walked staight into one of those security things by the door and cut his lip open. The thing is the security panel is pretty much transparent so no wonder he walked into it.

I did find a manager who got a first aider and assured me they would make it more visible... However, 30 mins later when I left the shop it was just the same.

Luckily DS wasn't badly hurt but was shaken up. Is it worth writing to them to compalin and point out that they haven't made it any more visible....?

cece, that would be very public spirited, though perhaps give them a bit longer to sort it out. Couple of days and then go back and check?

Glad ds wasn't badly hurt Smile

They could have sorted it out in half an hour, just by putting a coloured tape around it temporarily(sp)

I would imagine that it wasn't considered urgent given that they have X hundred people come safely through the door each day. Go back and check in a week or simply follow up your conversation with the manager/first aider with a letter outlining how difficult it is to see the security thingy and how you hope they will "consider the safety of their smaller visitors" by making it more visible..

That's what I thought! He siad most of them have an ad on them and the others did but this particular one didn't. Surely they could have done something in 30 mins!

As long as they logged the incident then I'd give them a few days to resolve it before following it up. If you want to complain then write to the Retail Operations Director (his/her remit includes H and S) and the Store Manager. Was it the Store Manager you saw or a Sales Mananger ?

cece · 08/03/2006 14:19

not sure as he didn't have name badge on. think it might have been sales supervisor???

In that case write to the Store Manager (you can look up his/her name on the website)- just a polite letter stating that the unfortunate incident occurred today, that you were happy with the way his staff handled it but could he/she confirm that the panel will be made more visible as promised as a result. If you don't get a reply within a week or so and nothing has changed, contact the Retail Ops Director at Head Office, enclosing a copy of this letter.

sorry about ur ds but i have to add from the "other side" so to speak

I used to work in a lrge dept store, not always coloured tape (if there was any tape at all) and things like that get passed onto accident managers (or equivelent) anyway. in half an hour chances are that the floor manager has only just been told.
I would give it a couple of days, especially if they are usually covered by adverts anyway. (which, incidentally is a merchandisers job not sales assistant)

cece · 08/03/2006 14:30

right - it is a bit of a design fault though isn't it having them pretty much transparent?

well yes that is sh*te loL! had thought they would need to see the door properly for shoplifters but if they cover them in ads then that defeats the object!

agree with the sending aletter tho, u may get some vouchers if ur v lucky

cece · 08/03/2006 14:46

oh yes hadn't thought of that!
