Should probably go in health, but I'm after a quick answer from you lovely ladies

DD 17 months, had this end of Jan this year, four days in hospital, had to have oxygen tubes up her nose, it was awful

Has had a runny nose since Friday, and woke up today really lethargic, and wheezy. Took her to doctors who said it was just a cold, not to worry

But she has the same symptoms as last time, she hasn't moved from the bed all day, she has watched every video we own.

So... shall I wait til morning to see how she is, and risk her getting worse?

Or take her to casualty, wait for ages just to be told the same?

IME, it's worth it to go to casualty, you'll never be able to sleep properly otherwise.

welshboris · 06/03/2006 19:39

Yeah I think I agree, she's sleeping now but when she wakes up I'll take her.

Better safe than sorry and all that

Thanks

If you're worried, go. At least you'll be reassured if they've checked her.

bronchiolitis doesn't usually need hosp treatment - how bad is the wheezing? ds gets it quite often and I just keep an eye on him, and if it's bad, I give him salbutamol morning and night (as the doc told me to). I might be slack though.

LIZS · 06/03/2006 19:42

poor little girl Sad. Think I'd seek another opinion either out of hours gp service or Walk-in clinic/A and E. It can recur, but usually to a lesser extent, or friends' dd became susceptible to croup after having it.

hope she feels better soon.

welshboris · 06/03/2006 19:46

She had it earlier this year, and needed hospital treatment, so Im taking her just incase. Like expat said I wont be able to sleep anyway

SP it is one of the most significant reasons for hospitalisation of under 1's in UK in the winter months. dd only narrowly escaped being hospitalised when she had it as a baby, although the paed only told me this after she had recovered.

SenoraPostrophe · 06/03/2006 19:55

yes, but that's mostly when they can't feed (according to my sis who's a nurse in a children's ward). I'm not trying to trivialise it - it can be bad, but it doesn't usually mean hospital.

LIZS · 06/03/2006 20:02

That is probably true - dd threw up a lot (even by her normal reflux standards) and wasn't feeding well either so got dehydrated as well as having low O2 levels.

foxinsocks · 06/03/2006 20:07

I think if you've seen the signs before (drawing in breath, blue around the nostrils, significant trouble on breathing) and you think she's going down the same route, it's probably worth taking her in.

They'll shove her on that thing that montiors her O2 and at least then you'll know where you stand. Better to be safe than sorry with breathing really. Hope she's ok.

Pruni · 06/03/2006 20:09

Did they give you an inhaler?
IME and friends' too it takes a couple of months for the wheezing to go. DD got it bad every time she got a cold after the first 'attack' (also hospitalised). Then one day we realised it had gone. Doc says it takes ages as well.

Pruni · 06/03/2006 20:10

I would take her in btw.

kaciethan · 06/03/2006 21:56

dd had this when she was 7 days old, i took her to a&e and they said to go home and put saline drops up her nose i told them that id being doing that for 2 days with no improvement. So i asked for a 2nd opinion and the doctor admitted her straight away, she was in hospital for 10 days all over the xmas time so not much fun for ds. But she is fine now. Have you been to the hospital? let us know how you got on x

welshboris · 08/03/2006 14:51

DD still a bit wheezy but has been playing with her toys this morning so a big improvement

Took her to hospital Monday, they said her oxygen levels were nothing to worry about, so sent us home.

Thanks girls
