STARTING SCHOOL (RECEPTION) AND GYMNASTICS IN THE LATE AFTERNOON?... WILL IT GET TOO MUCH?

O.k. so it won't be till next year when dd is 5yo but I believe waiting lists are long :)

My main concern is... she'll start reception in September and if I also then book her into doing gymnastics after school won't it be too much/tiring for her?

ATM she's still at nursery (2.5h am) and does ballet one afternoon and that leaves her tired...

anybody on here with some experience?

Thank you

will it be very night or once a week?

carla · 06/03/2006 11:16

Think so. DDs used to come home and nap in their reception class. Or nap at school.

carla · 06/03/2006 11:18

after their reception class, even!

Even now, at 6 and 7, not much can persuade them to do anything else but chill after school.

looking at the ymca locally and looking at their site they offer 3 days for her age group... so assuming it would only be once a week :)

My two are exhausted after school (both in reception) and couldn't cope with that, but they do have friends in their class who do something 2 or 3 nights a week. They all vary so much.

my dd is in reception and would love to do gymnastics and tbh, I think she'd be fine - she is however like one of those Energizer bunnies...

MrsBigD · 06/03/2006 11:25

Feistybird... that's why I would love for dd to do gymnastics... to wear out the energizer bunny energy Grin

Also I have to admit... she loves watching Lazytown and gets really upset because she can't do all the moves 'Stefanie' does... who I believe is a former gymnast Grin

My dd isn't 5 yet, she started Reception last September, and to be honest I don't think she'd cope with gymnastics after school. She gets plenty of exercise at the weekends, which she enjoys, but after school she's too shattered to do anything more than walk home and flake out on the sofa.

She has a friend who does gymnastics one night a week, trampolining another night, Rainbows on a third ... she appears to cope, but is constantly tired, her mother can't get her out of bed in the mornings, and she has huge red rings under her eyes. It's not something I would want for my dd. Although they are all different - your dd may cope much better than mine would.

MrsBigD · 06/03/2006 11:30

WWB omg wouldn't subject dd to 3 nights a week as I'm sure she wouldn't cope.

Don't want to have her do it weekends though as that's family time with lots of running around in the park etc

Decisions decision!
