How many hours a week would you consider to be........

part time??

And how many do you have to work for it to be considered 'full time'.

Just idly wondering what you all thought as DH has just told me that as I'm only working part-time (true in the sense it's only 3 nights a week as opposed to his 5 - occasionally 7, but that's his choice - a week) I should still be doing most of the housework and shouldn't be expecting him to do that much extra.

I'll come back to this in the morning to see what you reckon (then I'll tell you how many we both work LOL).

For my accident insurance the ruling is 30 hours per week. In France though that would almost be a full week!

If you work no hours per week paid and do all the housework at the moment, then I reckon that when you do 3 nights you should get half of it done by him.

i'm currently on 30hrs in 3 days but "on-call" for work mon-sun and do get calls to deal with things over the phone - so never really feel off duty.

dh does 37.5 contract over 4days but probably does an additional 2hrs a day at work plus another 8 or so at home (which he doesn't claim for persay, it's given back as toil when we need childcare cover) dh also does "on-call" and is more likely to get called back in.

I drop off to childminder and he collects. He'll cook 3 times a week (because I'm still at work), puts dd1 to bed most nights but general housework, all baby duties, shopping etc is left to me.

oh, i also achieve toddlers, soft play etc etc - he can't manage taking both the girls out at once unless its the 2min walk to the local shop. dh says he'll do this when dd2 is able to walk!

from september we'll both be doing 37.5 over 4 days but nothing else will change.

we're both nhs managers and would consider 3 night shifts as full time

I have just come back to work after mat leave and they consider anything less than 35hrs part-time!!!!!! Doesn't make sense to me.....

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 06/03/2006 08:18

hmmm interesting -

DH is contracted for 37.5hrs a week - and he can choose how he splits it up - he usually splits it over 5 days, but depending on how he's doing with his targets will work extra hours (for which he doesn't get paid for the hours, but does for the sales) at the weekends.

I work 3 x 9 1/4 shifts at work (haven't actually got my contract yet still on probation). Occasionally one of those shifts will be a 10 1/4hr one. So that's a minimum of 27.5hrs a work at week for me, but I'll often have to go in for training, staff meetings, cover extra nights (doing that next week - working 4 nights).

AND I also lead Choir Practice on a Friday night for 1hr, every Sunday have at least one 1hr Service to play for (every fortnight it's 2). Once a month have the after school service during the week, and play for the toddler group service on a Thursday afternoon. For my church work I get paid a 'stipendary' of £100 a month - which for us ATM is pretty vital.

SO in an average week I usually work about 32.5 hours - vs his contracted of 37.5hrs - and I'm supposed to do most of the housework as I'm parttime.

Hi am interested in how much your dps dhs help so im posting. I consider anything over 7hrs a day five days a week full time but if your say doing 4hrs a day but doing the picking/ droping to childminder etc id say your equal.

throckenholt · 06/03/2006 08:26

maths not his strong point then ?

lexiemum · 06/03/2006 08:36

4gotten to say - dh has sole responsibility for children on one day each week.

Usually he'll stay at home and do things like clear paperwork (household stuff) and tidy the shed - he's taught dd1(2.10) to use the shredder, a screwdriver, the pc mouse, load washing machine and practically every other "safe" gadget in our house. DD1's fav activity is being allowed to go down to the garden shed with him.

He's pretty good at keeping her occupied and interested and never tells me its been a hard day etc when I get back - which is usually what I greet him with! He always seems to achieve something for the home as well as build towers with megablocks etc.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 06/03/2006 09:30

He looks after the kids at the weekends if I've worked Fri/Sat nights, and drops the older one off at school in the mornings/looks after the toddler un the morning when I'm sleeping after I've worked during the week.

ahhhh - and now he's not talking to me because I (apparently) delibarately disturbed his sleep last night......something I apparently usually do when we've had a disagreement Angry Shock

LOl at lexiemum.
My dh is the same.
Has managed to teach ds 92) to work a screwdriver, he loves cars , sheds, garden tools.

Whereas, the house is a tip and I struggle to make a crumble.
Dh seems to do what he wants to do and get ds to enjoy doing it aswell.
Green with envy ? Moi ? Nooooo !!

RachD · 06/03/2006 11:32

Sorry QofQ - hijacked your post.
Dh is the same as yours.
He works a 12 hr day - door t- door.
Admittedly 60hrs.
But I work 3 days a week.
One evening a week on book keeping- 10 hrs work !!!!
Any spare hours on statutory accounts, tax returns, corp tax etc for an Accountant.

I do all the washing & ironing.
Most of the cooking.
Have ds with me 2 days a wek.
Yet, I am "ONLY PART TIME "

Do you want me to run through the maths with your dh ? Wink
