we`re thinking of redoing our kitchen and because the cabinets themselves are strong..old kitchen! we want to find out about just having new doors ..has anyone had this done ? has it been worth it rather than new kitchen although i do dream of a lovely brand spanking new kitchen ..costs account here though !! plus our kitchen is about 14 1/2 feet long by 10 feet wide and that s just the cupboards space so it will probably cost me a lot to have a whole new kitchen? also want to rip out old worksurfaces and replace.is this possible without wrecking everything else?

You'd need to make sure your doors/units are stnadard sizes first - I remember Essbee looking at this last year and hers were slightly too big.

Fairly certain you can remove worktops without trashing everything - the replacement ones would need to be the same thickness (or at least not thinner) as the old ones.

thanks but the b&q wont fit as our kitchen cupboards are not set size , we have really tall wall units which are 93 cms high so def not standard and the rest are all different sizes , we may have to have them made to order by the looks of it..hmmm i wonder how much that will be !!..probably about £50 a door and we have 19 doors!!plus worktops and drawer fronts.. i cant believe ill be forking out £1000 JUST on door fronts... let alone fitting of worktops and new sink etc..we were lucky yesterday as we got a bargain gas hob for £50! tecnik one from a shop that was refurbishing their store and wanted to get rid of all their stock and this one wasnt even a shop demonstration one but all packaged up and wasnt touched so im very proud of my bargain but i havent got a new kitchen to put it in..aaarrrgghh!!!

My in-laws just had new doors and work tops and it's made the world of difference to their kitchen and it didn't cost half as much as new units would have. If you're in London or SE you might want the company details - let me know.

I was in this position in my old house - units not standard size - and when I looked into having new doors they were going to cost £80 each Shock

The kitchen was small too, only 8 doors and 3 drawer fronts, so I got a complete new kitchen for about £600 from Wickes - and that was including worktops, sink, taps etc.

Might as well give them some publicity!

carpenter could make new doors from mdf which you can then paint whatever colour you like.

NotActuallyAMum · 06/03/2006 09:54

Or you can buy kitchen cupboard paint from DIY shops. I'm planning on doing that in a couple of months, never tried it before though so don't know how good it is

bambi06 · 06/03/2006 16:50

thanks kbear ill try and call them...im not going to try an dpaint them as i dont actually like the style of the doors but it is looking expensive and i`ve found screwfix do pretty cheap kitchens too..just got to persuade dh that having a new kitchen is much more viableWink
