I am a scatterbrain.
I am so untidy ,but it winds me up.How do i make myself put things away after i have used them.I could kick myself my house gets so untidy i work bloody hard tiding up and a day later andit is a blinking mess.I will never be a domestic slut ,but need some tips. You would think working hard to tidy up would be enough of a kick up the arse but sadly not.
Motivate me please i am sick of dreading anyone knocking at the door without two weeks notice Sad

a cleaner is what you need

I think if you are born that way (scatterbrain) then it's virtually impossible to reform. Also, have you married a scatterbrain? Chances are your children will be like that too.

So I say give up the fight now.

Also, get loads of really big storage things and just shove all the mess into them and put them in a cupboard. It will make you feel loads better.

Am not exactly reformed but have decluttered and most things have a home nowadays so do at least know what I need to do, whichs makes it all less daunting. Makes it easier for dh to help clear as well 'cause he knows where things should go.
We had a cleaner for a few months after ds was born (too broke for long-term sadly) and the house looked brill. I never get the chance to do everything in one go any more. Tend to do an hour or so maintenance a day instead. Usually first thing before I can think of something better to do.

od, you sound like me. and to make matters worse, my kids and dh are worse than me.
over the protests of dh i have found a cleaner. lovely girl. cleans the place up. and whilst she is working, i find i also not only clean as well, but continue to put things away, as i have 'paid' to have it cleaned, iyswim.

i am part way reformed but still looking for the answer

decluttering has to be first step

colditz · 03/03/2006 18:22

Snap snap snap snap snap.

Binbags. Scout round a room with a binbag, then put stuff away in it's home. If it doesn't have a home, make a home. If it isn't worth moving stuff to give it a home, throw it away.

i use to find keeping my house in any kind of order impossible but i've kind of got myself organised. lots of storage for everything is the answer in my house, big shoe rack in the hall and a wicker basket next to it so the kids can just chuck in hats, gloves, bookbags etc. Also have a few huge toy boxes with lids in the living room that i can just throw everything into. Its the same in the bedrooms, lot and lots of storage.

i wouldn't worry too much though, you can't live in a show-house, its a home. My mum always say's that if the house is a tip at least you can tell the kids are happy and have been having lots of fun
