DD2 got knocked down by a car

It happened when I picked her up from nursery. The car park was busy, I parked in a different place to normal. I had hold of dd's hand while we were walking across the car park, and didn't let go until I was at our car and unlocking the door. All of a sudden she ran round the back of the car, into the path of another. Luckily the mum driving was going slowly. DD cried straight away (a good sign the doctor at a&e said), but I was shaking, the other mother was shaking - it was hard to tell who was shaking the most. She was very apologetic, as was I, trying to reassure her that it really wasn't her fault. After an hour in a&e dd was given the all clear.

This happened about 5.40, I'm still a bit shaken and rather emotional, (cried everytime anyone in a&e asked me any questions about the accident) just thinking what could have happened. Have been thinking all sorts, 'I should have parked closer to the gate' ' I should have kept hold of her hand' etc.

Glad she's ok. Remember that accidents do happen and don't beat yourself up about it (easy to say I know)

Glad she is all ok. Its very frightening when these kind of things happen, with the best planning and care in place.

GLAd she's fine.Don't feel guilty it wasn't your fault, this could happen to my ds, he's always trying to wriggle out of my hand.I shall hold extra tight now I've read this.

The other mum must be feeling dreadful.

That but for the grace of God go I.

My DS once ran across the road at nursery whilst I was getting his sister out the car. I shouted at him to stay where he was and then he went to run out back to me and there was a car heading straight for him, I screamed, he froze and the car missed him by an inch Shock

Accidents do happen, it could have happened to me, it was not your fault at all!!!

WestCountryLass · 02/03/2006 22:53

Or even "there"...

Ailsa - I'm so relieved for you that she is okay. You really shouldn't blame yourself. So pleased she is okay. Poor you - bet you're beating yourself up over this Sad, but you really shouldn't

Today I was out with a friend and my 3yo ds. Me and friend both had buggys. Ds stayed with friend whilst I crossed road to shop, came out and ds just walked into road towards me, luckily nothing coming but shook me up.

So glad your dd is ok, hope you are too x

Thanks everyone, dd has gone back to nursery today. They are going to talk to her class, and tell them that they must hold hands with mum/dad, and to get straight into the car without larking about.

I'm much calmer now, was nervous and shaky this morning taking her into nursery.
