Was quite sure where to post this.

Anyway.. we have just moved into a really hard water area, and have really noticed a difference. Its crap. We have already had a couple of leaflets through the door about watersofteners and am contemplating getting one but was wondering if anyone had any experience and whether they really are worth while or just another gimmick??

Don't have one ,but would love one.I know of someone who paid 2grand for one Shock

There are 2 types and we have the less expensive one - it's attached to the water main and cost us around £500 I think. Have certainly noticed a difference in the reduction (but not elimination) of water marks in the bathroom etc.

There are so many different ones to choose from.
We have a 'Harveys water softener' - expensive - £1000.
Blocks of salt.
Apsolutley brilliant.
Can't believe the difference.
We know many people who have the same one and all think it is brill.

I was half expecting people to say it was just a gimmick but it sounds like i might be worthwhile. Not sure i'd be prepared to pay £2000 for one though.

Harveys is the one used by the people who keep sticking leaflets through the letterbox.

Know what you mean about the watermarks, the taps only have to look at a drop of water to look marked, but I think the main reason I'm considering is worry about lime scale building up in the heating system and especially in the dishwasher and washing machine especially as they weren't cheap ones.

Oh yes and it tastes horrible too. Bleurgh.
