Bumping in case you feel ignored SD Wink

CountessDracula · 01/03/2006 16:53

what newbies? Grin

robin3 · 01/03/2006 16:59

I think newbies come on to the site to gather practical knowledge but quickly learn that a question about cups and beakers will get two responses vs a question about Sex, Gina Ford or Breastfeeding which will attract a war that can brew for days. Mnet gets a bit wierd at times IMO but it's strangely compelling.

Twiglett · 01/03/2006 17:05

yes we are

hunkermunker · 01/03/2006 17:06

What newbies?

Twiglett · 01/03/2006 17:06

lets develop an initiation test for newbies

Q1 Find out who Lavender is and tell us why we ignore her?

Twiglett · 01/03/2006 17:07

Q2. Who is the mad tablecloth lady and why was she mad?

Flip · 01/03/2006 17:08

I know! I Know Twiglett! Is she still around? I can't believe so many of you 'oldies' are still about.

intergalacticwalrus · 01/03/2006 17:14

How about:

Discuss the significance of baby pasta

kleggie · 01/03/2006 17:27

What constitutes newbie? Been here six months, know all about mad tablecloth lady at the posh school. The only think I know about Lavenderrr is she has too many r's on the end of herrr name apparently.

So can I have half a mark? And will you tell us who Lavenderrrrrr is/was??

pussycatmomma · 01/03/2006 17:36

Smile im with kleggie, am pretty sure i fit in the newbie criteria as only around 6mths or so, i have no recollection of the posh-table-cloth-lady, nor lavenderrrrr, but i do know about the woman who put her kids to bed fully dressed in school uniform because it saved time in the morning!!! i know cod is v.v .v .v .v .v . tempremental, and that sharklet had a meeting up problem once and there were loads of apologies and rantings.........
do i get any points??? do i ? do i qualify as a mnetter yet?? Grin
btw i dont think the oldies are against us, if it werent for them we'd all know fuck all (scuse the french)

JoolsToo · 01/03/2006 17:42

I don't ignore anyone - I choose what threads look interesting and dive in - couldn't give a scooby who started it!

jco · 01/03/2006 18:21

I knw who lavender was!!

"Lavender was a poster who used to start therads like 'my DH punched my child' then when we all said 'leave him' would abuse us, and then let her DH come on under her posting name and abuse us too!"

Do i pass?? Grin

(ok, i cheated, i just read this in a post by blu on another thread)

do i still pass??

Blu · 01/03/2006 18:23

You pass with full initiation rite honours, jco!

QE2 · 01/03/2006 18:39

No problem with me knowing who Lavenderrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr was, is there? Wink

SoupDragon · 01/03/2006 18:55

Personally I struggle to know if someon's a new poster or has been around a bit (snurk) but that may because my brain has turned to porridge.

OP posts:
Papillon · 01/03/2006 19:08

whats porridge and who are you?

wondered how long it would be before the dust settled and gina rose again for more fracas.

Papillon · 01/03/2006 19:10

omg newbies and lurkers thread at 1028 - they are ganging up on us :o

Gloworm · 01/03/2006 19:18

am only on the newbie thread because even though i've been here 2 years i dont qualify as an oldie Sad Grin and the newbie thread is lovely Grin Grin

and i dont have a clue about lavender or tablecloth lady!

bubblerock · 01/03/2006 19:30

It's probably a bit strange for new people coming onto a forum where people are reminiscing about strange ex posters from eons ago all the time. Also dropping codes and words that won't mean anything to new people is going to make them feel excluded.

Sometimes people need these types of things to help them feel part of a group and will drop phrases, old posters names, hidden meanings into lots of posts to show that they are 'in the know'.

This is how It seems to me, I try not to use any of the '4,lav,JF,snurk, parp.....' because I don't want to be seen to be trying to fit in, if that makes any sense - I'll just stick to looking for holidays Blush

SoupDragon · 01/03/2006 19:42

this is why i hate those sites that have "no. of posts" or some sort of ranking under your name.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 01/03/2006 19:43

i don't know, bubblerock, i thought it was ignoing rather than speaking in code that was the perceived problem

OP posts:
bubblerock · 01/03/2006 19:59

I'd have thought it would make new people feel a bit left out of the loop, maybe not ignored as such. Smile

JoolsToo · 01/03/2006 20:04

but if you start a new job there are new people yes? you don't know everyone or the 'in' jokes or who's who in the pecking order etc - so you ask - simple really

bubblerock · 01/03/2006 20:11

I agree, but also find that some people drop 'in jokes' into conversation a lot to make themselves feel more included whilst alienating new people. It doesn't bother me particularly, I find it quite amusing, I just choose not to do it myself. Smile
