Cheap insurance and selling number plates?

Ds is buying another car today, do you know of any cheap insurance companies? Been searching all over the internet today, most of the ones I have looked at want nearly £2000 for cover for him!

Also does anybody know how to go about selling his number plates that he has on his current car, the car is going to be scrapped but the number plate is quite unusual - Don't laugh but it is B**ENT! He may find somebody 'proud to be gay' who wants to buy it!

BTW ds is most def not gay! (Actually you can laugh, we most certainly did when we saw the plates when he bought it! Grin)

hth

Squirrel3 · 01/03/2006 13:07

Thanks blondie, I've tried confused.com, I think the cheapest was £1800!

Last year his insurance was only £800, but he had a tiny accident, they really had to look hard to see any damage on the other car and then all it was was a small scuff mark and the bumper had come off its clip. Ds appologised profusely and offered to put the bumper back on there and then and polish out the scuff mark or pay to have it done but the git insisted on going through the insurance so it has put pay to his no claims bonus! Sad

Squirrel3 · 01/03/2006 14:17

Shock £3188!! they cant be serious?!!
i think some companies can be a total rip off, i got quotes from diamond and sheila's wheels and they was the most expensive quotes i got.
and they say cheap car insurance for women? my friend has got 10 years no claims and sheilas wheels was too expensive for her!
guess i was lucky then, my insurance only cost me £440. :o

Squirrel3 · 01/03/2006 14:32

it'll do for me to get to work and back and to get to a to b.

blondie82 · 01/03/2006 14:43

Squirrel3 · 01/03/2006 15:42

Interesting I have just loked at tesco's and they want £1397.55! Thank you blondie!

no problem squirrel, glad i could help :o
just need to get the number plates sorted.... have you tried putting them on ebay?

Squirrel3 · 02/03/2006 10:49

He thought about e-bay last night, he thought of advertising it as the number plate with a 'free' car thrown in! then it would be up to the buyer to organise the legality of it all. We are not sure how to go about just selling the number plate, from what we understand he owns the registration number as well as the car, what we don't know is if he can sell the plate without the car IYKWIM.

We are hoping that the sale of them will help out with the insurance costs.

blondie82 · 02/03/2006 11:25

i dont know what to say to that, im not good on knowing about things like that?!!
but i take it your ds will be going ahead with the tesco quote for his insurance?!! :o

Squirrel3 · 02/03/2006 14:56

Blondie, I found an even cheaper one! Grin Fully comp for £957 with me as another named driver, norwich union direct!

It does pay to shop around, even if it does take hours! Grin

i had a look on the tesco, asda and sainsburys website and for me the post office is still the cheapest...
