WE get leafletted here as well, BNP are quite popular here, they even have a shop apparantly.

meggmoo · 28/02/2006 18:40

Oh how delightful TSAP what do they sell?

meggmoo · 28/02/2006 18:41

My best friend was phoned by them several times and threatened, told that there was a bomb heading for her letter box.

Blandmum · 28/02/2006 18:41

horrible, vile people

Mazzystar · 28/02/2006 18:42

round here too - there's a council by-election on friday and they've put up a candidate.

their leaflet is full of the most vile ideas. hopefully it will at least stir the apathetic in to voting to ensure they don't get anywhere.

twinsetandpearls · 28/02/2006 18:59

I have never been megmoo but the mind boggles! But it is very worrying how much of a chance they stand of getting elected in some of our inner wards.

tuppenceworth · 28/02/2006 19:03

I don't agree with what they stand for but I defend their right to say it! That's democracy unfortunately, even if it is vile, racist vitriol from people who ironically would have been the first into the gas chambers at Auschwitz!

BadHair · 28/02/2006 19:03

Be careful. They leafleted me last year. I rang them to complain, spoke to some admin woman, and asked them to take me off their distribution list. A rather heated discussion ensued during which I told them that if I ever saw their leafleter again I'd stuff his leaflets up his arse.
Couple of weeks later I had the police on my doorstep. BNP alleged that I'd threatened them over the phone. They had given the police a supposed transcript of the phone conversation but had added in some gratuitous swearing for good measure. They got the conversation so wrong that they didn't even get the "stuffing leaflets up arse" bit right.
Police were brill about it - said it's not the first time the BNP have made up stuff about people who disagree with them, but they warned me to be careful as they obviously had my address. They were going to pursue a charge of wasting police time but obviously couldn't be bothered. Woman who made up allegations is a nutter who regularly writes to the letters page of the local paper - she's a complete lunatic, as are all members of, and sympathisers with, this ridiculous party.

Piffle · 28/02/2006 19:09

I politely chased the daring leafletter down the road and gave him his leaflet back, explaining my concern for the rainforests (in the waste of paper), and that in burning it I would further contribute to global pollution.
But if he could offer any non ozone depleting ways of getting rid of it I'd be happy to assist? Grin
I was followed by about 11 of my neighbours
The guy legged it Grin

It really is amazing.......I remember this right back from university days. Far right wing parties can never spell or do grammar.

It's definitely obligatory to insult the BNP and tell them to get lost.

monkeytrousers · 28/02/2006 20:10

I don't Tuppence'. I do support whatever legislation it is that allows minority groups to stand for election, but I would only fight for that right for individual groups if they had a real political mandate and not just some remedial desire to draw swastikas and absurd parralels with the city council (amongst other things) giving "the Muslim community 15,000 for a feasiblity study" to turn an old fire station into "another" mosque..."this at a time when vital services for our elderly are being cut is just rubbbing salt in our wounds" (sic)

It would be hilarious if it wasn't also so venal.

Caught a glimpse of the bloke who posted it too and he was so pathetic. Reminded me of this \link{http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,,1717676,00.html\Extremism: the losers revenge}

I am not sure what they sell to be honest, it isn't a shop I frequent that often!

Mazzystar I had the same thought as you when planning my year 11 citizenship lesson on voting and politics. I thoguht the knowledge that the BNP may get into power if they don't vote may make them gird their loins to the ballot box aor at least make them think. I was sadly wrong, infact some seemed to think the BNP was just what we needed. Very worrying.

twinsetandpearls · 01/03/2006 22:47

Sorry repeated myself then , I thought I had replied about the shop but couldn't see the post - thank God I have an eye test in the morning.
