eye tests, where do you get yours done?

had my eyes tested at specsavers.I then bought some reading glasses from an internet co.

Besides the fact they look gross on me,they just don't feel right.

Should I get a second eye test somewhere else,to see if the same prescription is prescribed ifswim.

Is there much difference between these places??

When you say they don't feel right do you mean the strength of the lense. If so it could be that where you got them from have put the wrong lenses in. Do you think you could get them checked out somewhere to see if the perscription you've got in matches the one you have from spec saver.

brimfull · 26/02/2006 18:07

yes, they feel a bit strong.but then i can read ok,my dh says I just need to get used to wearing glasses

I didn't think they would magnify the words so much, thought they would just make the less blurry.

best to go back to Specsavers and mention that its too strong as they will help you to re-correct it again

Radley · 26/02/2006 18:10

I have had mine done at boots opticians for years and have always had excellent service, there have never been any problems with either glasses or contact lenses.

biglips · 26/02/2006 18:12

ive had mine done at Asda and no probs at all

heavenis · 26/02/2006 18:15

Are you wearing glasses for the first time. If so I would recommend you back to spec saver. I've had my eyes tested at spec saver and found them ok.

chipmonkey · 26/02/2006 19:19

ggirl. I'm an optometrist and have worked in Specsavers among other places! All optometrists who work in the UK must be fully qualified and specsavers could not and would not employ someone who was not. You should return and ask for the specs to be checked to make sure the prescription has been made up correctly and if it has, then a re-check of the eye test itself should be done. I would only go elsewhere if you get no satisfaction from them. HTH

brimfull · 26/02/2006 19:23

thanks for the replies.
chiponkey,
I'll take the glasses to get the checked at specsavers.Do you think it sounds as thought they're the wrong strength?

OP posts:
chipmonkey · 26/02/2006 19:32

ggirl, honestly hard to tell. Sometimes the specs can be correct but difficult to get used to and you need to give them time. But def go back to specsavers, they'll be able to tell you for sure!

brimfull · 26/02/2006 19:34

thanks for your help chiponkey, isn't mumsnet fab?

It took me a while to get used to wearing glasses after so long with dodgy eyesight!!
Now I can't live without them as my eyesight is awful. I never realised it was that bad until I was told by my GP to have an eyetest to find out the cause of the headaches.

brimfull · 26/02/2006 19:57

yes, spursmum,I'm getting so many headaches.Must be getting old I guess.

ggirl, did you get sorted?

brimfull · 01/03/2006 15:39

i have an appt with them next week ,thanks for asking. i'm persevering with the specs at the mo but they still don't feel right.

chipmonkey · 01/03/2006 15:46

Hopefully all will be right as rain next week, then!

brimfull · 02/03/2006 16:10

chipmonkey,I'd value your opinion on this.

Today I had the chance to pop into town (ds has chickenpox and have been in quarantine all week),and decided to get my eyes tested at another place. The prescription came out completely different to the first from specsavers.

Specsavers ,I was +0.75 for both eyes

scrivens ,I'm +1.25 for both eyes.

Is that stronger than .75?

Anyway I've ordered a pair from this optician so I'll see how they feel.

thanks

bump for chipmonkey...or anyone else who knows

OP posts:
chipmonkey · 03/03/2006 01:05

+1.25 is stronger than +0.75 but neither are very strong prescriptions. I would think that you would only need them for reading, depending on your age. They would magnify the words as well as make them clearer. Also, if the first frame was not fitting well that can also make a difference to how well you tolerate them. I feel a bit iffy about specs being made up over the internet. Ideally an optometrist or a dispensing optician or even someone who is just used to dealing with frames should check the fit on the patient before a final decision is made. A frame can look lovely but be a terrible fit!

brimfull · 03/03/2006 10:40

THnaks for clearing that up chipmonkey.

These glasses are going to be made to measure as you say so hope they're ok.

I have had fantastic service from Visionexpress. And they do Prada frames which slightly softened the blow of having to wear glasses.

chipmonkey · 03/03/2006 21:13

WWW, I LOVE Prada frames! Unfortunately they don't suit me, though. Sad (To the extent that my colleagues fall about laughing when I try them on!)
