Just thinking today how many loads of washing do most people do on average? When Dh and I first got together it was one load every couple of days. Now with a 2.4yr old and a sicky 9wk old it is usually 2 loads a day or on excess days like today I have done 4 loads as Ds had a accident while having afternoon nap and had some bits to catch up on. I also use cloth nappies which are a seperate wash once every 2 days. So sadly I am interested to know if this is the norm?

No you are not. I have been suggesting to (nagging) DH that we get a second one upstairs where I can just shove all the sheets, towels, grobags etc without lugging them up and downstairs. I would feel like a fairy princess if I had two washing machines

i have two washing machines and two dryers. they are on 5 out of 7days a week most of the time. i am playing catch-up tonight and tomorrow so weekend will be laundry free. i have me, 3 girls (one very messy 3year old, who goes through about 3 t-shirts a day), and dh in hospital who sends home loads of pj's that need to be washed ASAP and taken back the next day.

i do 2 loads each day.. ds of 5 very grubby..school coat washed every day and dd who pulls bibs off and smears food all over herself

biglips · 23/02/2006 18:59

i only do 4 loads a week as there is only me, dp and DD

before DD was born it was 1 or 2 loads a week (Dp is a window cleaner)

i leave both till weekends

No. We have one of these tiny ones, so it's always on.

spacecadet · 23/02/2006 19:02

i put on average 3-4 loads on a day, more when there bedsheets etc.

Nemo1977 · 23/02/2006 19:04

lol thanks goodness Im not alone..I currently have the washing machine on with what would have been last load if DD had just thrown up..again. I have a airer full of clothes and the drier on and most radiators covered, including a duvet hanging over the bannisters.

doormat · 23/02/2006 19:18

another one who has washing machine and dryer constantly on

MarsOnLife · 23/02/2006 19:20

washing machine, dryer, dishwasher always on!

mcmudda · 23/02/2006 19:22

3/4 loads a day and nappies don last thing at night to be dried in the morning. 2 machines would be great

But am I alone in quite enjoying watching the stuff going round and round and round and round...? Find it quite therapeutic seeing at least some housework being done by itself!

expatinscotland · 23/02/2006 19:30

I put dd2, 11 weeks on saturday!, in her bouncy chair, put her in front of the machine, and turn on a load. She LOVES it! She coos and gurgles away at it whilst I get stuff done.

PeachyClair · 23/02/2006 19:45

If I kept up (impossible to dry it though so can't) it's four loads a day, more when we were using the washables, more if sheets etc.

I do the washing, DH puts away as I would just re-circulate. gave up on doing the ironing as there's just way too much.

Nemo1977 · 23/02/2006 19:49

expat will have to try that with H she is impossible to keep entertained..hence one handed typing..lol

Mine too, not unusual to do 4 loads on a mon- bedding and towel day, and if I let it build up... it's awful
