old fashioned ones me thinks

we have a few too, just verrry old! Actually abroad they seem to be quite common.

Racers · 22/02/2006 14:53

Our house had them when we moved in (built 1988 - so not all that old really). They are easy to replace if you want the switches. ("easy" she says... we just get FiL to do these jobs)

Our house is quite new too and has them We had our survey today and I was just wondering if they were dangerous as they are always on iykwim

You ought to make sure they are all disconnected (should be but don't go poking anything metal in).

Skribble · 24/02/2006 22:18

Yes it does mean they are always live, it is easy to change them. We only have one now but my kids are past the stage of poking things in them. I suppose if kids are likely to poke them they are just as likely to switch them on and off too.

I don't think there is anything in bulding regulations that says you can't have them. If it makes you feel beter get a pack of socket fronts and change them. It will smarten them up too if they are anything like mine the old ones will be covered in paint.

As long as they are reasonably new they will be safe unless a child were to poke something metal into 2 holes at once. I think.

But you can change the fronts to switched ones quite easily.
