somewhere nice to eat out in Manchester

I should know of places myself, but don't get to go out that much...

Can anyone recommend nice eating places in the middle of Manchester - we're still looking for somewhere to go for lunch after our civil ceremony, so it needs to be right in the middle of town so we can walk there.

is that Dot with the cutie boys who like ducks, Dot?

Dh and I went to Living Room on Sunday and it was nice, brunch type stuff and Sunday lunch etc. Has a rep as a footballers haunt but was ok in the daytime!

yes it's me! Never heard of the living room - whereabouts is it? We're having the do at Manchester Register Office - Albert Square. I'll google Living Room - thanks!!

It's on Deansgate and very swanky!, just a short walk down King St from Albert Square!

When is the big day?

oliveoil · 22/02/2006 13:14

It is on Deansgate just up from Kendals

What sort of place do you want? Are you taking the boys?

Dottydot · 22/02/2006 13:24

ooh - I've just been looking on their website and it sounds lovely! Yes, we're taking the boys + 50 guests!! It's on July 22nd, but we've got a bit of a dilemma with lunch - we need people to pay for their own! So we're going to put something in the invitation, but then need to find somewhere that people can choose what they want and not have to pay too much. The lunch menus look good there though - lots of choice and not tooooooo expensive...

I'm trying not to worry about how the bill's going to get sorted out on the day - hopefully people will sort themselves out??

I think they have a private room in there (which the footballers are always lounging in picking out conquests) so you may be able to hire that? Not sure.

They do a children's menu.

Dottydot · 22/02/2006 13:27

Right - I'm going to go down there this week to check it out - thanks for suggesting it. At least footballer spotting would give the menfolk something to do. There'll be 15 under 5's so a children's menu would be good..!

yes, they do chicken goujons etc

Not that mine would eat it!

Heathcote's is also nice. I know someone who had their wedding do there. It is just off Deansgate but not sure which road (Brown Street or something, springs to mind).

Nightmare - Living Room can't accommodate us!! Est Est Est in Manchester can though - has anyone got experience of eating there? Or any other suggestions?? (I'm starting to panic as the invites should be going out soon and I really should get lunch sorted...!)

Haven't been to Est Est Est in town, but have been twice to the one in Didsbury, and enjoyed both times. The price can vary considerably depending on what you have - i think its reasonable, although if you have the meat dishes (rather than pasta etc) the bill can mount up.

One of my favourites in the city centre is Grinch. Great food, good value and nice atmosphere - generally quite lively. Service is usually efficient and friendly and they do great cocktails. I think they have a small function room.

Have been to another Italian, called Piccolino's once, which is just off Alberet square. Food good, quite 'upmarket' looking, a bit posher than somewhere like Grinch.

There's a restuarant on the top floor of urbis which have heard rave reviews about, but have never tried it.

HTH - not been out for ages following arrival of DD! Getting wistful over those cocktails..

Panama Hatty's is somewhere off the top end of King's Street. The Cheshire branch is great, haven't been into the city centre version. Lots of texmex stuff, very tasty and slightly more unusual than a chain like Est Est Est.

Agree Grinch is nice.

Why not go for afternoon tea at the Midland hotel instead? It's very close to your register office and it's a hoot!

The waitresses will bring you all tea, sandwiches, scones and cakes on little trolleys....so lovely and about £12 a head so nobody can complain! The Midland has a restaurant downstairs too, I think it's French.

Loaf at Deansgate locks do nice food.

we went to La Tasca in Deansgate after a wedding at the manchester registry office. had a great time. Rioja and tapas.
friends' marriage didn't last long but it was one of the better weddings I've been to.
