Its blinking hard work and sleepless nights alongside the ability to shape your own life which is great and take work that you enjoy rather than you have to do!

It puts house and family under stress and strain but in the end its really worth it.

I take school holidays off in general and work around my kids but am often away overnight as well.

I do web design and logo design and have slowed it all down considerably since birth of dd (10m now). Having said that I still have deadlines and find myself working until 3am 'cos that is the only time I get to myself. Glitterfairy is dead right - hard hard work but well worth it. A word of warning if you are thinking of doing it yourself - a high level of self-motivation is the single most important trait for someone running their own business. You can't pull a sickie when you work for yourself.

I try to work part time (3 days a week) but usually ends up more like 4 or 5. Great for the flexibility aspect but I agree about needing to be very self motivated. It was especially difficult at the beginning, so much better if you can do it with no financial output and no reliance on income. I'm not a good example at the moment though, am almost 39 weeks pg and still got lots of work on the go! Having said that for being able to spend maximum time with my children and earning a decent living while I do exactly what I want, when I want, you can't beat it.

im going into childminding in a few weeks hopefully and if that doesnt go too well then ill do that pt and driving instructor pt too later in the year. i can already see its going to be hard work but i think im going to like it and i like the fact i dont have to be paid a set ammount every month - ok i could earn less/ nothing but i have the potential to earn lots more than if i was employed and i can be with my children maybe even earn enough to get a cleaner.

Read this as "who minds their own business" and thought you'd not get many replies on MN!
