Christmas birthdays

DS2 was born a couple of days before Christmas last year. Of course he will be too young this year to really notice his birthday! but I wondered what other people did about birthdays that were so close to Christmas. Even though it is only his first birthday, there seems to be a worrying trend towards the 'big' present rather than two different ones. How do you make their birthday a special day for them? We were considering putting the Christmas tree up on that day rather than wait for Christmas Eve like we used to do. Any ideas?

Our family is notorious for Xmas birthdays. At family parties we have a whole collection of people called Noel, Noelle, Mary, Christopher and Holly. So far no one is called Santa...

Tinyfeet - on New Years Eve everyone kept trying to get me to dance to bring it on - but I was having none of it! I actually did start getting fed up with being overdue, but I didn't try all the curries and sex as I would have done at any other time of year!

Bizarrely I had two friends who had been due on New Years Eve the previous year, and both had their babies on 11th January too!

My dd will be 14 on the 9th December. We usually put the christmas Tree and decorations up after her Birthday, then it doesn't all get mixed up. She still likes seperate presents and would rather have 2 smaller presants then one big one. She likes snowmen so actually likes her presents wrapped in Christmas paper. My Birthday is on the 15th so we have a very busy time.

I'm 23rd December and was never happy when I was little and people bought one present 'for both'.

It was probably made worse by the fact that my brothers birthday is 20th July - so he only had half a year to wait for more presents.

I know other people in similar situations who end up buying both children presents on each others birthdays to make them feel better. so glad this didnt happen with me though - very hard habit to break once it starts and I think they should learn that they only get presents on their birthday (not everyone elses!!).

It doesn't bother me any more of course! - even some people buying me joint presents still (nice to get anything now

An ex of mine, his birthday was Christmas Day. He used to get two presents.

Dd will be 7 on 11 December and it is treated like any birthday - have to book her party well in advance though. We used to wait until after her birthday to put the tree up but last year she decided that she wanted it up for her birthday. She loves being really important in the Christmas parties and pantomimes etc.
Mine is in the middle of January and I hate it - there is only ever crap left in the shops as they have been ransacked in the January sales and Spring stuff is not yet in (always vouchers for me!!) - no-one is organised enough to buy before Christmas and no-one has any money left either.

But Jaybee, I have benefitted from sales bargains in the past (when my hyper organised family have not got me joint pressies)
