Going to an NHS Themed Party on Saturday and as on tight budget leasing of a nurse / doctor costumes is out of the question so dh and I decided to go as patients - any good ideas of something we can easily knock up ourselves at home??? Wish I could fit into my dd's nurse's uniform!

No suggestions but had to lol at the irony of an NHS-themed party having a tight budget!

your DH in school uniform tie, white shirt and trousers - complete with pan stuck on head?!

Hattie05 · 16/02/2006 18:38

no he needs shorts Racers, then he'd look fab .

Racers · 16/02/2006 18:40

yes, of course, if he'd agree, it would look good, I think. So long as he doesn't mind wearing a pan on his head all night!

pyjamas

spots · 16/02/2006 18:44

one of those revolting nighties that ties up the back so that your bottom shows.

spots, my mil works in a hospital and should be able to get hold of those but I'm not seeing her this weekend - any suggestions where something similar can be obtained?

bit worried about what food they might be serving......

vickiyumyum · 16/02/2006 19:24

if you have asewing machine you could make one out of a sheet or some material! just make a t sahpe for the front and then 2 halves of the t for the back, with some ribbon or binding for the ties.

or you could go to ann summers and buy a naughty nurse outfit for dh to wear! and you could wear a suit and borrow a toy stephoscope and thermometer from dd if she has a toy doctors kit.

(if you live near Reading i have a real stephoscope you could borrow)

Suit and Attitude as per ?Nathan the Young Upstart Manager in Casualty/Holby?

Electrical wire and pegs/sticky tape so you look like wired up to monitors?

Was also thinking of white/grey face paint, make some stitches all over - bullet hall in the forehead - bodies!

Could you just buy a shirt or nightie from a charity shop and slit it up the back, add a few ties and a big fake bottom protruding from between them...

fond memories of my friend's wonderful hallowe'en outfit; she went as a maquaque (?) (the bottomy monkey) with her normal clothes and this big blue bottom sticking out.

Bottoms plus fancy dress; always a winner IMO.

Could you make a neck brace out of foam and bandages?
Fashion yourself a canula out of the top of a washing up liquid bottle, plasters and a bandage.

MrsWood · 17/02/2006 12:05

That's a good one Spidermama - don't think i've got any foam though

Party was brilliant - the hosts decorated the house to the detail - toilet was "deposit room", main room was "A&E", the room with food was "Canteen" and kitchen was "staff room" where all the drinks were. We all had name badges (NHS ones) - my dh was "Medical Director" which suited him as he came plain clothed. I was "Language and Speech Therapist" - and wore a hospital gown like the ones nurses wear in surgery. All the uniforms were provided as many guests came without - one of the guests works in hospital and was able to get hold of loads of props (syringes, bed pans - where funnily enough, food was placed, IVs etc.) and uniforms. Most blokes were "surgeons" (no clothes underneath which made it really authentic) and most women wore nurses uniforms or patients gowns. Glad we went, had a brilliant time, and definitely gave me an idea for something similar for my 30th next Feb. Probably the best fancy dress party I've been to.
