And if so what are your and your children's favourites.
It took me ages to work out which one dd kept asking for over and over again: 'little little bear'. Eventually worked out she meant 'I Had a Little Nut Tree' ('nothing would it bear'). Definitely her favourite along with I Saw Three Ships and Jack and Jill (although I worry that the version I know is a bit violent - lots of whipping going on).
She has to have several sung every night at bedtime after her story.
She is just 3. Ds is 5 and not really keen on them anymore (although enjoys listening in to dd's).

DD at 20 months loves them. We have cd's in the car which have to be on at every journey.
Her faves are ba ba black sheep, twinkle little star.

MerlinsBeard · 15/02/2006 20:11

Dizzymama · 15/02/2006 20:13

My life feels like a musical! Dd loves them (12 months) her favourites being 'Wind the bobbin up' and 'Twinkle twinkle'. I have to sing them to her and she does the actions very, very cute!

fastasleep · 15/02/2006 20:14

Yes we sing them every day!

DD's (4 months) favourite is '5 little ducks went swimming one day..' you knoooow lol

DS has to have twinkle twinkle, the full version of London bridge, he likes wheels on the bus daily too and 'the big ship sailed through the ally ally oh..' and sleepy little bunny and they both actually like a song from O Brother Where Art Thou which got stuck in my head (I'm not overly religious!)

it's the one that goes 'I went down in the river to pray, studying about the good old way and he shall wear a robe and crown good lord show me the way...' anyway it bangs on fo ages!

They love singing, I have a huge repetoir... I want to run a playgroup one day!

colditz · 15/02/2006 20:19

yup - dd goes through phases - her favourite at the moment is incy wincy spider - brought on by the rain we are having at the moment.

she loves a couple of wiggles songs that i haveto sing as well as the goodbye song from kindy.

Marina · 15/02/2006 21:24

Dd loves Ten Little Speckled Frogs, Old Macdonald and Incy Wincey Spider.
Ds has also taught her We Will Rock You, thank you ds.

SorenLorensen · 15/02/2006 21:24

We have a very precise bedtime routine:

Sip of water.
Rendition of Twinkle, Twinkle.
Another sip of water.

This routine will not be deviated from under any circumstances or all hell will break loose.

Marina · 15/02/2006 21:25

Put the pillow down, Soren

Flossam · 15/02/2006 21:25

I sing to DS in private . My singing voice is not my strong point. Was most when we went to see consultant about DS tongue tie and that I was worried he wasn't babbling, cons was talking up the virtues of music, at which point I said 'Oh yes, he loves dancing to the videos on the music channel..' Got out of the room and realised that he meant singing to him myself. Was most as he probably thought we just ignored him and sat watching tele....

biglips · 15/02/2006 21:25

i sing loads to my 16 mths old DD as she seems to hum them after me

her fave is:

Row Row the boat
and
Old macdonald had a farm (as dp makes funny animals noises and she is in stitches!)

she loves
twinkle little star
humpty dumpty
etc

when she was first born, i used to do Pink Panther music sounds all the time

biglips · 15/02/2006 21:27

im terrible for it as ill be singing whilst baba in the buggy howling away - Row row row the boat.... people gives me funny looks!! i wonder why??

Dizzymama · 15/02/2006 21:31

Does anyone else find themself making up daft songs for everyday activities though? I found myself singing :
'Mommy, Baby, Geoffry and Bear
Mommy, Baby, Geoffry and Bear,
Mommy, Baby, Geoffry and Bear,
Going down the stairs'
today, as I carried Dd and her two soft toys down from nap time. It was set to some non-descript tune and I found myself wondering if \i have secretly been taken over by the spirit of Andrew Lloyd webber (not that he's dead!)

SorenLorensen · 15/02/2006 21:38

We had a lovely thread about that once, Dizzymama. I sing "I'm gonna wash these bubbles right outta your hair..." to my youngest in the bath (to the tune of Gonna Wash That Man...from South Pacific). I'd sing it to my eldest too but he goes "awwww, Muuuu-uuum!"

cori · 15/02/2006 21:44

I am always singing something, and I cant sing either. DS -4 does sometimes tell me to stop, but has to have a lulaby every night. I usually sing 'Tomorrow, tommorrow' from Annie, (its on his bedtime CD)
Also once they start Nursery the songs change. Did you know that we now have 'Twinkle twinkle traffic lights' and 'Twinkle twinkle choclate bar'

Jodee · 15/02/2006 21:47

DS is nearly 6, every night I have to sing the two verses of Twinkle Twinkle, three times.

BettySpaghetti · 15/02/2006 21:55

DS (19m) loves all the ones that involve actions. He particularly loves clambering onto one of us, jumping up and down saying "see saw" -this means Seesaw Marjory Daw, Horsey Horsey and Row Row Row Your Boat.

However he calls horses "see-saws" now???

Mazzystar · 15/02/2006 21:58

DS loves Row row ( 12' extended remix with crocodiles and lions)
Dingle dangle scarecrow, but just as happy with me singing david bowie and the smiths with him

fob · 15/02/2006 21:58

Dizzymama I'm with you! I'm no Maria Callas, but singing along to any everyday activity will calm my ds down and allow us to get out on time! all together now!!!.. "we're going out now, isn't that fun, out in the car, in the wind and the sun"! He loves it! Honest! There's no activity you cant sing about.....

spots · 15/02/2006 22:17

Total wraparound lingalongaland here too. Fatsasleep, that song used to be one of my bedtime options for DD when she was tiny! thanks so much for reminding me. It is a lovely song. (Though on the theme of song customising, we soon had 'Oh, Granny, let's go down...' and 'Oh, horsey, let's go down...' etc. which rather punctures the mood..)

edodgy · 15/02/2006 22:23

My DD who's 3 at the beginning of April loves:
Wheels on the bus (a firm favourite)
Hey diddle diddle
Row Row
Daisy daisy (although not strictly a nursery rhyme)
Old Mcdonald
Twinkle Twinkle
Happy Birthday (even when its no one's b'day)
Horsey, Horsey
5 Little ducks

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/02/2006 22:27

I do lots of singing and nursery rhymes with my minded children at home. I have proper music playing in my minibus when driving with them - they love a bit of Muse and Maroon 5.
