I haven't got a clue wondering if £5 per hour is ok should it be more? Will be for 4 hours. Help please! (Tried to ask them but they don't give anything away.) Don't want to upset anyone friendship more important than money but at the same time money is tight and this is just a treat for a year of us not going out in years!

My Brother who is 15 gets £5 before 12 and £10 after 12.

The kids are already in bed, so he is basically being paid to listen out for them, watch TV and also eat me out of house and home!!!

suppose it depends where you live and the going rate

6-8 per hour seems to be the rate here for a grown up sitter so 5 for a teen plus snacks should be okay

£5 an hour for sitting on your sofa is a huge sum.
£3 an hour is fine if they are not properly qualified- more after midnight.

I pay around £3 per hour (£10 -12 for a night, it would be £15 if it was after midnight but I don't have wild nights any more!).
I think £5 is far too much - different if a qualified professional, but not a teenager.

I find that I pay between £10 and £20, depending on how long it is for. I figure £3 an hour, rounded up for hours and rounded up to the nearest fiver.

My 16yo niece has a regular babysitting job - not relatives or even friends as such, just someone who goes in the pub where my sister used to work. There's only one child, 9yo girl who has be in bed for 9 so she too gets paid for listening out for her and watching telly. She gets paid £10 for what's normally about 3.5 hours work - 8(ish) till half 11(ish)

If anyone around here paid £5 an hour I'd be doing it myself

Yes - £3ph is plenty for my friends dd who is 15 and occasionally babysits for us. Kids are in bed and we wouldn't keep her up too late.

I pay £4 p/hr to my babysitters. Seems more than enough for sitting on the sofa, watching TV and/or doing their homework in peace.

thanks that's so helpful. Was hoping £5 would be considered a lot as it will work out at more than I could really afford but was willing if necessary!
