Would you bother with a bouncy chair?

I've got a car seat that rocks for the coming arrival, but we don't have a car! The seat is second hand, but being as it is never going in a car that doesn't bother me.

When baby is older and wants to be propped up a bit, I am intending to put him in the car seat - as a chair.

Does anyone know why I should not do this? I do already have a ds, but am astonished and embarrassed to learn that I barely remember anything about little babies....

I dont think they make very good chairs personally.

I never had a bouncy chair either but I did have one of these which was invaluable as you can stop it rocking for weaning and recline it fully when they are babies (not good for their backs to be in a car seat for any length of time)

personally I only ever used a car seat in the car.

it should be fine we used out carseat as a chair when we were away as it saved space and it worked just the same. i would say its better cos they are strapped in better and cant escape when they get bigger

i had one like what enid linked to. absolutly brilliant, thop didnt use it much with dd3 as dd2 is very clumsey and fell on her.

ds was fine in his - we used it as an indoor chair until he was weaning and then had a low/high level highchair. Invaluable for rocking him with our feet while we tried to eat. We did have one with dd though(one of the few new pieces of kit she had). She had reflux so she spent much of the day in it incuding playing under her play gym as I had originally been worried ds wouldn't notice her on the floor !

I found it invaluable for reflux, but I could live perfectly without her before his reflux went wild after an operation.

We have one of the Chicco padded reclining/bouncy chairs and agree they are brilliant. Mine were in it fully reclined from day 1 (I always wondered where else people put their babies during the day). 10mo ds still uses his for occasionally although he is way too big for it really.

I had a regular Mothercare bouncer £10 for dd, but it was too steep for her as a newborn and she was able to lift up her head and tip herself out of it at a scarily early age too. This time I have bought a proper reclining rocker chair like the Chicco one (mine was £28 in Mothercare sale - but I've noticed Babies R Us do some quite cheaply too). I think it'll last a lot longer than a regular bouncer. Car seats aren't really that comfy and they are quite stiffly positioned so not good for long periods of time.

Our rocker chair was on of our best buys. It could lay flat, so could be used for day time napping, and could be sat right up and used for those early weaning days. Wouldn't have been without it.
