We sold our house back in November, first day, first viewer - very lucky.

Well its still going on, there is a chain of 5 (we are No.4) and we should have exchanged today, found out at 4.30 that the first time buyers have not been in to sign yet, solicitor has requested them to come in but they haven't returned his call, we are supposed to be completing next Friday.

So if you are our first time buyer, live in Yorkshire and buying in Wolverhampton, get your back side in gear and go and sign !!!!!!!!

I have a feeling all this is going to fall through - I am so stressed. This is our dream house too

thank you for listening - rant over

aaaagh. We've been in what should've been an ultra-simple transaction since Nov too - absolute agony - due to exchange a week on Mon - you have ALL my sympathy. Cmon golds buyers, sort your act out!!!

golds · 10/02/2006 17:56

it really is the pits, feel like telling them to shove it, but its not anybody elses fault and why should we all lose out for the sake of these idiots at the bottom of the chain.

I don't know whether to pack or not, trouble is I don't want a mad rush next week. I have no enthusiasm to do anything other than wollow is self-pity

I hope it goes easier for you Franch

Oh Golds, hope they sort their act out.

We are in the process of selling adn buying too. Buying no problem - we've had our survey done, mortgage in place etc just waiting for searches.

Our buyer is in a chain like yours - she is 3rd in the chain, bottom is FTB and they are holding it up too. Girl hasn't had the survey done on ours yet and they are expecting to complete on the other chain next week.

Drumming fingers a lot!

Mirage · 10/02/2006 20:06

oh golds you have my sympathy. We were in a chain of just 2 people & yet it was the ftb who held us up.They cancelled appts over 2 wks to sign & we ended up exchanging at 4pm on Wednesday & moving the next morning.

Not at all funny,I'd had a baby the week we were supposed to sign & we managed to get ourselves to the solicitors, but the buyers at the bottom of the chain couldn't!

I'm sure it will all work out in the end.
Good Luck.

Tell me about it - we found our dream place, put ours on the market mid Nov. First day, asking price offer. Two weeks ago she still hadn't even had a survey sorted out. Tthe estate agent was worse than useless. So after cajoling, pleading and threats we told her to sling her hook and we've started again with a new buyer and a much longer chain - and a more expensive estate agent! All this and baby due on March 31st. If I ever see this girl in the street she's for it. Good luck to us all!

FTB's are a pain. Know that sounds a bit generalist but everyone I know who's ever had problems with houses it's been an FTB at the bottom of the chain holding up everything. When we sold our first house the FTB at the bottom held it up because they had bought some ancient cottage with a lake in the garden hnd had to have a multitude of surveys, water surveys etc, when we sold our last house we had offer from FTB who promptly screwed us around for weeks not organizing surveys etc, until I gave them an ultimatum, pay your search cheque or we'refinding another buyer, they promised they would and then pulled out a week later. I genuinely don't think it's the fault of the buyers but the solicitors who represent them. There seems to be this general understanding that because they're first time buyers they don't know what they're doing and so the solicitors tend to get them to do everything imagineable so as to increase their own fees.

Another problem tpday now, we where allowed the key to our new place to have a nosy around, it needs alot of work and is currently empty. Dh opened the cupboard with the gas meter in it and discovered the gas had been disconnected, then found a disconnection notice condeming the boiler. The sellers hadn't told us about it, it was done a week ago. If we move in on Friday, we will have no central heating, gas or hot water.

It was warmer outside today than in the house, not sure where I stand and what I can insist they do about it or not ? any ideas ? supposed to be exchanging tomorrow.

I think she wasn't going to let us know and have us and 2 kids move in and have no heating

Golds, you should speak to your solicitor in the morning and tell her you're not happy about it. If the boiler has been condemned and disconnected you need to know why, and what needs to be done to put it right. If the boiler is in a serious state then you may require a new one and that won't come cheap. I would seriously hold off exchanging contracts until this matter has been rectified. You're not obliged to go through with the house until you've exchanged, you can still pull out.

We had a FTB who was a PITA as well. Was late in instructing solicitor paying for surveys, pushed his luck when surveys indicated problems, agreed with me a date to exchange and then changed his mind and a chain that was FTB-us-our vendors who had already purchased house took 7 months because he was such a useless tosser!
