Ok, have started a thread about catering for my lot, but need to know who actually sends theirs to school dinners and if you think they are nutritional? I have three in primary and two in secondary.

About once/week when I know that the afternoon on the day before will be hectic for me (eg, footie night for DS).

Nutritional?... who knows! Lunch seems to be the hi-light of his day and he gets bored with same-old-same-old, it's only 1 day/week in the end.

My DD had a week of school dinners once (cos she begged me). After day two she cried and begged me for a packed lunch!

Will they cater for your kid's requirements tho Somanykiddies? ie the vegetarians that don't eat veg - that did make me laugh. What the hell do you feed them?

ds has one school dinner a week. I'd prefer him to have it more days, because they are good, but he will only eat it on days when they have fish.

My two are having school dinners just now in the hope they get something hot. DD will have a baked potato and chees most days unless there is maccaroni or fish and chips. DS ends up with a cheese roll most days which is a pain, thats what we were trying to get away from.

Thing is a lot of the meals sound a bit much to a 6 or 9 yr old even though I think the names are fancier than what it actually is,
e.g. Pork steaks, red onion & red berry gravy with boiled potatoes, FGS cal it pork and potatoes with gravy and he might go for it.

DS hates potatoes and chips too, I have tried explaining that he can ask for rice with things or take extra breas and leave the potatoes but he is not convinced.

Warmer weather it will be back to pack lunches, they still end up with a cheese or ham roll every day but they get carrots or apple, fruit jucie and other nibbles, twice as much as what they get for about £1.50 a day.

extra breas should read extra bread

DD starts school in September and will have no choice. All the girls have to stay for school dinners, with no packed lunch option. the cost of dinners is included int he fees though, at least, and the menus we saw on our visits look very good.

When I ask ds1 what he had for lunch at school, he always tells me about pudding first .

dd has school dinners, mostly because there are very few kids that take packed lunches and I didn't want her to be away from friends.
We have to do it on a term to term basis, so can't swap and change, but the meals seem to be fairly good and I'm also happier about her having a hot meal in this weather.
