We live near queensway and i need to find more places to go for some indoor play, preferably on one bus ride. love the princess diana playground/zoo etc for the summer but in the midst of winter am now very bored! I don't mind a walk in the cold but ds is very put out! have been to ikea a few times, tried bramleys at ladbroke grove which was quite fun, blue kangaroo on kings road which was very ill-equipped for his age and have been to the aquarium few times but would rather not keep paying fees! Where else can we go please help, am getting bored of the science museums play basement!

I will be so interested to read this thread JB, we sound like we have identical dss!

Not a going out experience but does he like to paint/play dough? My ds is permanently on the go and to my delight he has really gotten into painting in a huge way. Another thing he likes to do is stand on a chair and play with the taps in my kitchen - he will do it for about 30 minutes at a time. Bliss, means I get to clean the kitchen whilst he is occupied

Feeding ducks is another great one. What about airports? Do you have any private ones near you? Ds and I can kill 3 hours watching the micro planes and helicopters taking off.

jinglybits · 06/02/2006 23:49

oh no, no airports, lovely idea, i could fantasize i was about to fly off somewhere tropical! tbh i am in fear of giving him playdough, is he old enough? he is the destroyer, rips up books, wallpaper off walls, attempts to peel back posters etc to get blue tack to chew/eat. pretty much shreds/eats everything! ...that is why we need to get out so i can keep hold of the plot!
have an aquadraw and some mini aqua colouring mats which he loves, in fact he really doesn't mind staying in, i think its me that needs to be out and about.
friend of mines been telling me how she read about and has been putting her 17mth old in the kitchen sink to play with the water/taps, but my ds is a big tall boy and i'm afraid he would climb out very easily!

Don't put him in the sink have him stand on something so he is the right height. I run the tap on so it's barely a trickle and give him 2 spoons - the joy on his face!

Jeez there is no way I could put him in the sink - I had a neighbour round last week to tell me ds was on the window sill(of his upstairs bedroom) trying to open it (when he was in his room for a nap!)

jinglybits · 07/02/2006 00:04

oh wasn't implying you put your ds in the sink, thats just my nutty friend! ...just had a thought, could sit him in an empty hbath with a washing up bowl of water and a plastic measuring jug/and other similar plasticy kitchen things...5think i have the opposite of agrophobia where i can't stand being in and have to get out the house!

Does he like trains? Could get onto the circle line for a round trip. My DS1 (2.5) is rarely happier than watching the trains to Olympia from the carpark of Tesco. Chilly Though

Also think there's quite a good drop-in play group at St Peter's Church on Kensington Park Road. Check out Netmums for others.

jinglybits · 07/02/2006 22:23

...am scared of playgroups...am scared of too many children but many thanks i may try it one day

Great under 8 drop in centre in Fulham - open from 9.30-12. Just off the wandsworth bridge road. Has lovely staff, who will welcome you, so no need to feel like mum no mates.

One thing I miss about London, what is the name of the road.... Aaaagh. And I seem to remember that it is open over the summer holidays.

Holland park, nice alternative to Hyde Park.

Is that Sands End, Klauz? Haven't been for a while but yes, it's a good one, isn't it?

Be strong jinglybits - 20 months is probably a good age to do play groups - before they hit their terrible twos and start beating up the other kids .

Klauz33 · 08/02/2006 21:26

Yes that is right Sands End, I used to take my under 2 there and he was perfectly safe and happy. They have lovely outdoor area, painting, loads of toys which they rotate. And it only costs £1, cheaper than the parking outside!!

My dd was a bit like a destroyer - got some cheap stickers and she spent ages putting them on her top, then her arm, my arm etc - little things.

Also got some Little People - spends hours playing with them.
