As some of you know ds2 has had this awful fluing thing with terrible sore throat. He has been hallucinating at night and can't sleep as is having bad thughts and is frightened. He goes all ridgid and thumps himslef saying he wants to kill himslef, them says 'its ok its ok' then starts talking rubbish and goes ridgid and cries.

If I ask him what his thoughts are he cannot remember.

He had anohter one just now, while he was atching TV, so not in bed or trying to sleep.

Last year when he was tired, he said he wanted to die as he cjoudnt cope with the thought of life and GCSE's and meeting someone to settle dwon with. He has been fine since, once he settled int oschool he seemed fine.

Is all this related? Is he panicing becaue he is tired? Is this the start of panic attakcs (i had them for years and wouldnot visit them on him for all the tea in China)

I don't want to out something onto him that is my fear.

Is he jsut tired and senstive and ill and this is why he feels like this?

Does sound a bit of a cross over between the fever/illness/panic,not very sure what else to say, apart from maybe get him to a gp on monday and mention it all

My dd is only 3 but had a fever with a cold/sort throat thing about a month ago and she was having panicky/halluciating/imaginary stuff which sounds like you are describing - I was terrified but she didn't remember it afterwards when she was 'lucid' again. I assumed it was to do with the fever.

ds2 has had it since Friday morning as well Beety (and it started with him seeing a nose in the curtains). I suspect your ds is going a bit squiffy because of the virus. I thought ds2 was over it this morning, by this afternoon he was flat out on the sofa again. He's been switching between being happy and just sobbing today, normally he's a cheerful soul.

thanks chaps.

he is asleep. I stayed in his room so that he would feel secure.

Gawd, what a worry

Beety, it's very frightening to see your child behaving like this. DS2 used to be prone to night terrors, where he would appear to be awake, but clearly was not aware of his surroundings fully and would come out with some complete gibberish. It was very upsetting but we gradually got used to the format. He has fewer such episodes these days.

It sounds to me as though this behaviour was triggered by the high temperature and now he is possibly more prone to them when he is feeling unwell.

Glad to hear that he is feeling better today.

Beetroot · 06/02/2006 17:22

he does wake up after a sleep day time or night time and has had nightmares. Even walking down the road (he walked with me to school) HE SATRED TO WORRY ABOUT BAD THINGS. Couldn't vovalise them though
