these things can come with a temp, keep him on paracetamol and ibufren (SP) friends sister used to have terrible hallucinations when she had a temp - has he only just started having them ?

starlover · 04/02/2006 20:53

is he under any pressure/stress atm?

Beetroot · 04/02/2006 20:53

don't know what else to say, if it were me I'd take him into bed and with me and tell him I'll watch him so it doesn't happen, if it's the temp the medicine will control it if it's stress the reassurance should help.

but I'm no expert

ScummyMummy · 04/02/2006 21:02

Poor baby. No advice beets but hope he feels better soon.

Beetroot · 04/02/2006 21:14

will ask him if he wants to come int my bed. Although he rocks (aggh)

My son had the flu bug and was really poorly for a week. Temps up at nearly 40. He did say that he had very vivid frightening dreams at the peak of his illness. He's 11 btw.

WigWamBam · 04/02/2006 21:20

Do you think it might be hallucinations? My dd has awful hallucinations when she has a high temperature, scares the life out of her (and us). I give ipuprofen, strip her down and use a cool flannel to cool her off. If that doesn't work I take her outside for a few minutes to cool her down, which usually does the trick. It's then just a matter of persuasion to convince her that she didn't really see what she thinks she saw; at least at his age he has half a chance of understanding that it's part of the illness.

JanH · 04/02/2006 21:21

Sounds like DTs which goes with high fever. What does he wear in bed, beety? Has he got thick duvet? Could he have thinner covers and pjs?

Beetroot · 04/02/2006 21:29

jan and wwb yes sound slike it. Bless he is so worried about it

Agree with others about temp/hallucinations. When I was about that age and ill I remember hallucinating that I was hemmed in by school chairs!

WideWebWitch · 04/02/2006 21:34

Or could it be night terrors beety? Ds has been having them, v scary and it's hard to tell he's awake.

Beetroot · 04/02/2006 22:16

what is the differnce WWB? He does have a bad cough and temp.

Beetroot · 04/02/2006 22:17

sorry www? i remember your ds having terrors. I wondered if it was that. how and why??

OP posts:
puff · 04/02/2006 22:25

beety, if it's happening with a temperature, then these hallucinations can be spectacular - I had them regularly between age 9 and 11 whevever I was ill. Was found screaming in the middle of the road about 3am one night, brought back by neighbours!!

GP said it was a sign of a very creative mind

Beetroot · 04/02/2006 22:27

blimey Puff. In the middle of hte road? Iwill hide the door key!

beety i started a thread about a week ago, my ds definitely has night terrors atm but I think it's quite hard to distinguish between them and just waking at first, I'll see if I can find the thread.

WideWebWitch · 04/02/2006 23:58
