How much do you spend on presents for children's parties?

I usually spend around a fiver. However, after dd1's party today I feel rather embarrassed, as she received some which were obviously a lot more expensive. First of all I was thinking 'Oh, well maybe it was an unwanted present', but there were just too many of them for it to be that!! Am I a skinflint or were dd's friends parents just extravagant?!

DD always make the card.

We then spend about £5-£7 per present on a child (usually a book) for nursery friends and children me/Dh don't really know.

May spend a little more - £10 on friend's children. Have been known to spend up to about £15 if a special reason.

Lidl are doing Knight's Kingdom figures for £3.99 from tomorrow morning. Also younger kids play sets for £4.99.

Just in case anyone wanted to stock up...

$5 (which is only a couple of quid), but I buy things on very special and then save them. This week I got Hairy Maclary read along book and CD for $5 - bargain.

i bulk buy good quality sets of books from the book club at the school i teach at and give these as pressies. They're worth between £4 and £9 I guess and i probably get them for £2-£3

I hate all the present buying for birthday parties of kids in dd's class (the ones we don't know well i mean): it's either tat or too generous or doesn't suit what dd's into. I'm not being mean, i just think it's unnecessary after all the stuff kids get from parents, close friends and family. This year I'm going to request no pressies from school friends that come to her party - if they really want to give something we're going to borrow a novelty charity box from the children's hospice and they can give donations.

bulk buy in sales - £3 per item, original cost about £7. Also buy a load of children friendly birthday cards when local shop has its sale.

£5 which incls paper and card. I try to get the kids to make the cards themselves.

I'm a great believer in the present box. All good BOGOF deals go in there. I buy in the sales, Book People Online booksets - to divide. If I find something of particularly good value I'll buy several.
