I am stuck. He is a mechanic but has all his tools etc. Has done up his car already. My sister is buying him a watch, my other sister a penknife. He doesn't wear jewellry. WHAT CAN I GET HIM. Its his birthday today and I still haven't bought him a present!

If he is anything like my brother who's 21 in 2 weeks, clothes or vouchers to get himself them should go down a treat.

Lonelymum · 02/02/2006 19:47

Would a hip flask be inappropriate?

hana · 02/02/2006 19:49

i bought a hipflask for my brother when he turned 21
as far as I know he has never used it!

dh also has one ( must have bought it for him same year as `I did my brothers) he has used it mnaye onece or twice in 10 years

Lonelymum · 02/02/2006 19:51

I bought one for my dh before we were married which is why I thought of it. He likes malt whisky so a hip flask was appropriate. He used to use it quite a bit when we went hill walking but I must admit I haven't seen him use it recently. Not everyone's "cup of tea" I agree.

I did think clothes but wanted to get him something 'special'. A hip flask - I think he would laugh in my face! Anyway - I am his young 'trendy' aunty!!

A tankard? You could have it engraved. Some nice ones here

Lonelymum · 02/02/2006 20:05

Oh

poppiesinaline · 02/02/2006 20:12

Oh no Lonelymum - I do appreciate your in put. Its just he is really difficult to buy for hence the reason why I am so stuck! You know what young lads are like. I am that my sisters have grabbed the good ideas already! I should've got my arse in gear earlier!!

Cufflinks? Can get some really nice ones - v young and trendy and am sure he'll have occasions to wear them. Could get a cufflink-appropriate shirt too?

Surfermum · 02/02/2006 20:17

I bought my nephew an Edinburgh crystal whisky glass and gave him some money too. I think it's nice to have something special as a keepsake for special birthdays. I can remember getting a Wedgewood cheese knife for my 21st and not being that impressed. I thought I would never be old enough to actually host dinner parties and put it to any use, but now I think it's lovely!

poppiesinaline · 02/02/2006 20:29

Bought him cufflinks for his 18th. Whisky glass good idea. Thats it though isn't it - buying something that maybe now he thinks 'huh thanks' but in years to come will like. But this trendy aunty wanted to get something he will like now and later! Wanted to spend about £20-£30.

For my Goddaughter's 21st I surprised her with tickets for Robbie William's concert. On the night of her party I sent her a text message ( this seems to be the main way of communicating at this age) it said "here is a message for you to save and forward to your mates at a later date" ...Sorry folks I won't be out on the beers this weekend as I'm off to Leeds to see Robbie!!!
She was absolutely overwhelmed!!
Could you perhaps get tickets for a special footy match or his favourite group??

jenthehen · 02/02/2006 20:36

you beat me to it Aimsmum .. great minds and all that!!!

Like that one. Great idea. And he will remember his 'outing' in years to come too. Brill.
