Rainy days - How do you exhaust your children?!

It has been a disgusting rainy weekend. Yesterday we stayed indoors pretty much but consequently because ds1 had not had any excercise he didn't fall asleep till gone 9:30 last night even though he was in bed at 7:30.
Today we have taken ds1 and ds2 swimming and hopefully this has worn them out !

What do you do with your kids to get them some excersise when they can't get to a park or in the garden ?

My eldest 2 tend to dismantle both of their bedrooms, which I suppose is great fun for them. They get tired out when I make them help me tidy it all up......and believe me after seeing the mess they can make anyone would be knackered after tidying it.

Tie them to the back of the car and go for a drive

Get some good waterproofs, and go out for a long walk anyway ... it's the only thing that keeps us sane. Seriously, if we don't get some fresh air, as well as exercise, we all go bonkers. My kids quite enjoy walking out in the pouring rain. I hate to be constrained by the weather, so we just go for it anyway.

Kayleigh, how about swimming? Even if they can't (as my 2 can't) there's a lot of effort in splashing around. Alternatively, there's a council-run soft play area affiliated to our local sports centre. Anything like that near you? As a last resort at this time of year I go round the shops with a piece of paper and ask them to make a list for Father Christmas. As toy shops are thin on the ground in Oxford, and we bus it in, that seems to tire them out enormously. Love spashing in the puddles too!

Can I put in a bid for puddle jumping as well? (wellies essential). Followed up by a change of clothes and some warm chocolate.

kayleigh · 23/11/2003 19:12

hmm, like the sound of the warm chocolate hmb, almost worth getting cold and wet for !

I agree with kmg1
get booted and suited and go out. I got a fantastic all in onw 'rainy suit' for DS from JoJo Maman Baby catalogue, it was about £20, with elasticated cuffs and elastic to hook under feet. Teamed with wellies ds can virtually swim in it and not get soggy. Best thing I ever bought.

How old are your kids Kayleigh?
I can only suggest a play centre. That gets dd dripping with sweat she runs round that much.
They might be quite packed on a weekend though.
I have had a similar boring weekend, Boring and frustrating being cooped up with a 3 yr old all day. Feel really awful but can;t wait to take her to nursery this morning.
Its my day off and I've got loads of housework, laundary , shopping to do , But at least it will be peaceful.

charlize, my boys are 5.5 and 2.5. I hate those indoor centre things - the ones near us are sooo noisy. There is one good one but it's too small now for my eldest so I only go there with the little one during the week. Thank goodness it is dry today so we can pop to the park for a while after school to let off some steam.

Enjoy your peace and quiet. My eldest is at school today but the little one isn't as nursery yet so I don't get a break. Apart from this one as he is asleep for a blissful hour!
