My FIL had it about 8-9 years ago and is still here to tell the tale! He had a treatment where they put the chemotherapy drugs into the bladder over a period of time. Sorry I can't be more detailed but it was just before I met DH so I've never been able to ask about it as obviously it's a delicate subject.

Here's some Info

thinking of you alliep30. just going through something similar with my mil & she's mid 50's too, so knwo what you're going through & thinking of youxxxx

I started a thread under 'health' topic & there's a few links there & useful comments, not on bladder cancer specifically, but some of these might help you, they're helping me. Best wishes to you, dh & fil.

My mil was diagnosed in Dec 04 (age58) and had multiple small tumours removed via a cystoscopy and then chemo drugs directly into her bladder. She now has to have a cystoscopy and check up every 6 months (and will have to do that ad infinitum) but has been clear since. Treatment depends on the type of tumour. Fingers crossed for your fil.

thanks for your kind words. I think it's fear of the unknown and seeing people you care about hurting and feeling so useless x the more i learn the more optimistic i feel. just breaks my heart to see my dh so worried too

how much treatment has fil had yet? Or are you all just beginning? it's a huge amount to learn/come to terms with/adjust to. Does you fil know what the battle plan is ?

alliep30 · 03/02/2006 07:57

he is a very private man. tumor is 2cm, and cancer is stage 2. the plan i think is to remove tumor in 2 weeks, and go from there. They could not be certain that his kidney was clear..only found out tuesday. my husband has been hiding at work all week

alliep, I'm really sorry for what you're going through. There's really good information about what all the stages mean on the CRUK pages- if you know the exact codes given to your FIL then you will be able to get a better idea. Stage 2 is not so bad, but bladder cancers have a lot of different kind of codes associated with them and behave rather differently from other cancers in some ways. I will keep everything crossed for you all.
