Mildew in clothes- can you get it out?

DS left his wet rugby kit in the bag all week with his dirty trainers & dirty football boots on top of the clothes (& the boot bag empty at the bottom of the bag- ggrrrr).

The white collar of his new (£17) rugby shirt is black with mildew. I soaked it all day yesterday in Stain Devils mildew remover and it hasn't made any noticeable difference.

Anyone know of a miracle mildew remover?

Glo White? Like T-bag things you put in the washing meachine - seems to work on everything I have tried it with so far. Even things died pink from a rogue red sock.

No guarantees, and it depends how soon he needs it again, but DS2 did this with his life-saving swimming pyjamas - after long soaks and washing they still had loads of black spots and smelt manky. I left them on the line for 2 weeks while we were on holiday (this was at Easter, there was lots of sun) and the spots had virtually gone when we got back, and no smell.

Mildew is almost impossible to shift otherwise. If you do need it sooner you could try scrubbing just the collar with a tiny bit of bleach, very carefully, don't get any on coloured bits. Good luck!

No sun for the past week but I'll try your other suggestions. Thanks!

I think they say white vinegar but I treid this on buggy hood to no avail - try that spray on mould and mildew remover
