I posted earlier that AF was here but only because I had taken the MAP last week, so its not a proper period its a hormone induced one.

It hurts though!!!! I have taken paracetamol (not supposed to take ibuprofin) and have been lying in bed being a wuss but it really hurts.

Anything thing that will help - special teas or something????

TambaTheTemptress · 01/02/2006 14:20

hehe Cyan, that was my line of thought but, one dairy milk, a fruit and nut and a fudge later I just feel queesy lol

fastasleep · 01/02/2006 14:21

No one who is on their period is supposed to take ibuprofen, as it thins the blood, so feminax shouldn't have that in it, well not in amounts that woud do any harm anyway...

NomDePlume · 01/02/2006 14:22

some periods do hurt. The MAP forces your womb to empty (for obvious reasons), so I guess you shouldn't be surprised if it is painful. I've taken the MAP a couple of times and I seem to recall the bleed being reasonably uncomfortable, but then I get quite painful periods anyway.

WigWamBam · 01/02/2006 14:22

If you haven't got a hot water bottle, fill an ordinary bottle with warm water and use that instead.

If you're concerned about it, give NHS Direct a ring and ask them whether this is normal or not.

NomDePlume · 01/02/2006 14:23

fasta, I didn't know that about ibuprofen and periods. Ibuprofen is all I can take for over the counter pain relief, paracetamol doesn't touch it, unfortunately.

TambaTheTemptress · 01/02/2006 14:23

Hadnt thought of that, i guess thats why it aches so much.

Will it last the 5 days do you know?

NomDePlume · 01/02/2006 14:24

Tamba, I don't remember it lasting that long for me (although it was about 2.5 years ago that I last took it!).

MrsBadger · 01/02/2006 14:25

My first thought was hot water bottle.
Try heating a pyrex plate (or something similar) with some water in it in the microwave for a min or two - remove, dry, wrap in towel, clasp to belly!

fastasleep · 01/02/2006 14:27

NDP it's only one of those 'it miiiight cause heavier bleeding' so they don't suggest it's use for that purpose, but it's mainly arse covering as with everything

I am the person to ask about period pains lol... try overdosing on cocodamol that's what I do! Even if it is the foulest tasting thing ever... that's the second to last resort though (last resort being to jump out of a high window..)

WigWamBam · 01/02/2006 14:28

Feminax doesn't contain Ibuprofen - it's paracetamol, codeine, caffeine and something called hyoscine which is a muscle relaxant. If you can get hold of some, it might help.

cyan · 01/02/2006 14:29

i must be really gormless but ive never been told not to take ibuprofen when you have a period, but TBH i dont take anything anymore i just squirm and wince through the pain. just wanted to ask seeing as we are talking about this, i had a coil fitted soon after i had my ds and my periods have got heavier and more painful has anyone else had a similar situation there's prob a thread somewhere ....

tamba i can eat chocolate for england.... ooh i fancy some now but ds is sleeping
[she says salivating]

I think they say it's quite common for your periods to change and become heavier and more painful within the first six months while your uterus etc gets used to the coil being there, if it continues I would go to the doctor... not much point in having the thing in there if it's causing you lots more agro!

Can you tell Miss Fastasleep wants to be a nurse? I have a head like a sieve, all the medical facts stay in and everything else just falls right out lol

NomDePlume · 01/02/2006 14:32

I can't take any of the paracetamol 'extra' type painkillers (like Feminax, Anadin Extra etc) because they contain caffeine which gives me severe migraines. Great

fastasleep · 01/02/2006 14:34

NDP ibuprofen isn't going to kill you, don't worry about taking it, you would have had horrible bleeding the first time you took it if it was going to do nasty things...

NomDePlume · 01/02/2006 14:36

S'ok fasta, not really worried about it. I take high dose ibuprofen regularly so I'm sure I'd have dropped dead by now, if I was particularly sensitive to it

cyan · 01/02/2006 14:41

thanks fastasleep, i have always had heavy periods (not even going to attempt to spell the medical term dysmenorea bla blah something like that!] but its just seems that after i had my ds and not having periods for 9 months and then having a coil fitted they came back with avengence aaahhh. yes i have had it fitted for a while now so will prob take a trip to the docs soon, if they dont calm down
