Boot sales question, experienced sellers?

Hello

I am thinking of having a go and wondering how much petty cash should I bring, change wise.

I was thinking £15 in pound coins, £4 in 50p's and £2 in 20p's?

Most things I plan on selling for under £2.50.

Just wondered, I would not want to loose a sale due to not having change. Do most people going to buy at boot sales bring change? I know I have in the past but I've never been a seller before.

Many thanks

your early customers may only have paper money to spend, so bring some yourself so you're not giving away all your coins. also it kind of depends on the prices of what you're selling. items costing £5 or more you won't need much coin change, more paper change. and items less than £5 you'll need more coins!

general advice- get prices in your mind before you go so you aren't dithering when people ask how much stuff is, pack your tables/groundsheets into the car last, bring carrier bags, newspaper for wrapping breakables and bring drinks and snacks so you're not spending your hard earned cash.

oh, and be prepared for people to be practically climbing into your boot to see what you've got as you unpack! have a lovely time Smile

What bella said!

If you have got someone to go with its much more fun, they can field questions about the contents of your boot to the early /trade punters who swarm around as soon as you open the car!

Also it helps to pass the time and its handy if you want a loo break or to grab a bacon bap & coffee that are often on sale at these things. Bringing your own is a good idea too.

Take a comfy fold up/camping chair, it is easier to relax & not seem to be hovering when folk are browsing.

I also spends a few hours the night befor just putting prices on things with cheap sticky labels or tape. Lots of people don't like to ask or haggle so will drift off.

Be prepared to drop to silly prices just to get rid, some folk just want a bargain!

Good luck!

Great advice thank you! I decided to do it this weekend instead and I never thought about putting the table in last and bags/newspaper too.

Thanks for that, I'll alsi bring one of my camping chairs to relax in out of the way.
