They take up space

They slow everything down

The child in the buggy often whines

If there is more than one buggy on the bus then it cause no end of disruption

Because I want to sit in the buggy spaces, its more roomy and nearer the front

Because when I was younger we didnt have buses and I managed! Children need fresh air.

And dont even think about bringing a double buggy on the bus - it should be banned.

guess what? the bus will be teeming with wrinklies come april the driver told me today. from april, they dont have to pay!!!
great. now they can not only clog the bus up at peak rush hour times but all day long, yay!!

Elf1981 · 30/01/2006 16:42

I hate going on the bus with my daughter in her pram. She's 16 weeks so if I'm off out all day I dont fancy using the sling, but boy people can be evil on the bus!
I especially hate having to fight past other buggies who have occupants of around three / four years old.
I start work again in March and am going to be paying a fortune to take my car because I fear I'd be lynched taking my DD to nursery in her buggy during rush hour traffic on the bus!

pootlepod · 30/01/2006 16:42

Everyone should drive everywhere then we wouldn't need buses.

misdee · 30/01/2006 16:44

last bus/buggy thrfead went onto disabled people. was quite heatedc iirc

TambaTheTemptress · 30/01/2006 16:47

Like today, there were 3 pushchairs already on the bus - there is space for 4. Normally i would have left it and got the next bus but I had to pick ds up.

There is a person sat in the bs chair seat. There is a queue of people behind me

I stand there like a lemon waiting for her to move... and i wait... and i wait...

People behind me start tutting...

I say "excuse me I need that space"

She says "oh"

And i wait....

The driver says, "if theres no room love, you'll have to get off"

I say "there is room when she moves"

And we wait.

Then she moves to a seat opposite. Hooray!

and i park the buggy and everyone else gets on.

Then she calls up her friend on her mobile phone and complains about "dis woman on the bus man"

arrghhhhhhhh

pmsl sounds v similar to something that happened to me on my first trip on the bus with DD. Still shake my head in disbelief, how can some people be so bloody stupid?!

TambaTheTemptress · 30/01/2006 16:51

The theres the old bingo men that tell you to "get out of the fucking way"

To which I reply in a really loud voice "OMG did you hear what that rude man said to me???"

I am going to complain to the driver next time!

There was a youngish lad pnce who shoved past me when I was struggling with the buggy - I said very loudly "OMG you just felt my bum!" he and scurried off

I am evil!

I wondered why I get such strange looks when I help people on & off the bus with pushchairs - it's obv because everyone else has given them a hard time!

but then I do work in a hospital at the top of the biggest hill for miles, so my bus is always crammed with kids, elderly men, prams, pg ladies, people in casts, wheelchairs etc.

TambaTheTemptress · 30/01/2006 16:57

arrgghh dont start me on the one! Would it be so difficult to lower the damm step when a buggy gets on or off ????

And why can thtey wait 30 seconds til youve sat down instead of sending you and your 3 year old flying onto the buggy to squash your 1 yr old????

When I was 37 weeks pregnant and still working, I was sitting next a window when this rather large lady came up to sit down. Give it your best shot!

She rudely told me to squeeze in a bit more. Um, sorry, lady, but there's a bus WALL next to me.

I was at the end of my tether w/pub transport by then - I normally walk the 5 miles to and from my work than be arsed w/that fcking bus. So I just snapped at her, 'Find another seat or come back when you lose 4 stone, otherwise, go on to fck w/you!'

She left.

twirlaround · 30/01/2006 17:03

Tamba you have some great lines

spacecadet · 30/01/2006 17:16

thank god i dont have to use buses anymore, i live in the middle of nowhere and years ago had to rely solely on public transport, i can remember 15 years ago struggling with newborn dd and a pushchair that needed a master degree to fold down, that you needed to be geoff capes to carry, while the bus driver actually tutted in exasperation!, dd was only 8 weeks!
when i was preg with ds, i was virtually bulldozed out of the way in the bus queue once by a load of pensioners, even though i was huge.
i got told by an elderly lady who had parked in a parent anmd child space, that "they didnt have these in my day", i felt like saying" so..what are you only parking in it now to make up for lost time!!!!"(she didnt have a disabled badge btw before i get flamed)

PeachyClair · 30/01/2006 18:00

This brings back memories of when we lived in Somerset and I had to catch a bus with the two of them (before ds3 was born) at 7.15 every day for work, what a nightmare! Ditched the buggy as soon as was able, (but when I started ds1 was 22 months and ds2 9 months) but a nightmare!

Even worse was the return trip if I had to do overtime, double decker full of students, no buggy space....

MarsOnLife · 30/01/2006 18:36

try buses with twins tamba my angel............. lol

Still.... I always find that a really patronising tone accompanied by a patronising smile works.

Oh I'm sorry..... it's a good job I left the triplets at home otherwise there wouldn't be room for you on your privately hired bus!

jambuttie · 30/01/2006 18:48

I also hate shops that don't accomodate your need with a buggy(i have a double buggy btw

I used to panic if I knocked something over and be picking everything up, hubby saidto hell you will you aint the only twin mum around if they cant sort the shop out for your needs f* them

So now if clothes get knocked down because of my buggy they stay down

MarsOnLife · 30/01/2006 18:51

ooh I'm sensing a kinship with your hubby lol

stitch · 30/01/2006 18:52

if a shop cant accomodate me and my buggy, then they dont get my custom. simple.
and im talking double urban detour here...

actually, the local bhs cant even let people through the racks of clothes, let alone buggies. idiots. dont they realise how good consumers moms are.

jane313 · 30/01/2006 18:55

I had a huge row with a driver who wanted me to fold my buggy. It wasn't that I minded (althoigh hwe was incredibly rude, coming out his cab to scream at me when I hadn't done it fast enough. I couldn't cos there were streams of poeple coming in) but he didn't asked any of then 12 or so people stood in the aisle (taking up far more room than a buggy) to move and sit down on the empty seats, so more people could get on without pushing through.

It was ironic that me my son, our shopping and the buggy took up more floor space than him & the shopping in the buggy!

ShaysMummy · 30/01/2006 18:55

some shops i cant get round with a single!

jac34 · 30/01/2006 19:14

When my twins were babies,I was waiting for a bus.
Along came a half empty one but the driver took one look at my double buggy, opened the door and shouted,"Your having a laugh love, can't come on here with that."And drove off

I could write a book about trying to use public transport with a twin pram and the uncalled for insults.

jambuttie · 30/01/2006 19:17

totally agreeing here ladies.

I too used to have the urban detour twin buggy, we both drive and didnt use the bus but still the shops were a nightmare.

Our BHS is a nightmare too so we just dont shop there

Twiglett · 30/01/2006 19:21

they should develop a buggy park at every bus stop so you can leave your buggy and just pick up another when you get off

I actually think that's a darn fine idea

(if your child is tantrumming you can leave your child in the buggy park and pick up a calmer one at the next stop)

compo · 30/01/2006 19:22

at Expat!!!!

ixel · 30/01/2006 19:24

Tamba... what heaven do you live in where you have space for 4 buggies per bus? I wish.

My bus to Tescos often goes past empty because it doesn't want to pick up the buggy.

And the other day it wouldn't lower the step and was just too far from the kerb. I told the monkey driving that I just needed an extra inch, so he pulled forward... and drove off. Git.

Well, at least I'm supporting my local shop by paying their extortionate prices rather than going to real shops.
