Not intended to spark a debate - if you are sad that you cannot join in the demonstrations today because you are at work or busy at home you can do a virtual march on the US Embassy

aww, can we have a debate? please?

pie · 20/11/2003 14:39

Have you seen that the White House was evacuated about 10 minutes ago...but apparently its all ok now.

I have a bad feeling about today. Dh being a Yank is afraid to go out.

BadHair · 20/11/2003 14:41

Can we virtually kick the bstrd's *rse too?

outofpractice · 20/11/2003 14:42

Sorry pie that your dh is feeling like that. Surely lots of Americans were against the war anyway, such as my bil, so I hope no one is going to assume anything about your dh's views automatically, and he just can avoid a debate (unless lucy123 provokes him!). What is the point of someone attacking the White House when George Bush is here?

OP posts:
pie · 20/11/2003 14:44

DH is very anti bush, let alone the war, but no matter how much the majority of people understand there are those just looking for trouble iykwim.

BadHair · 20/11/2003 14:45

I meant kick Bush's *rse, not Pie's dh's. Sorry, must learn to use refresh button more.

doormat · 20/11/2003 14:45

very conveinient if you ask me (whitehouse being evacuated) when the anti-bush march is going on
is it a deflection from that
or am I just a cynic??????

pie · 20/11/2003 14:46

badhair, you can kick his arse if you like!

fio2 · 20/11/2003 14:47

agree doormat

There was some loonies in our town demonstrating, we are in the midlands!!!!!!he's hardly going to see it is he!

FairyMum · 20/11/2003 14:47

I wonder what George and Laura think of the Palace tupperware?

oliveoil · 20/11/2003 14:50

I am sure the Queen had an Accesorize tiara on last night, £4.99 if I am not mistaken.

BadHair · 20/11/2003 14:54

Personally I wish he'd choked on his main course at buck palace. Now THAT would have made some good news - queen kills us president.
Were I childless and still living in London I'd have turned out for this one. I don't think it really matters where you demonstrate (he's not going to see much of it in Central London anyway)as long as you make your protest felt.

That would have been "Nigella killed the preisdent" Isn't she doing the cooking?
If I was cooking for George, I would have cooked up something with pretzels. Pretzel-soup for starter perhaps?

pie · 20/11/2003 15:03

Isn't Nigella's new MIL Iraqi?

Well the British consulate has been killed in Istanbul, the world is going crazy today.

I saw Damon Albarn (Blur) on Sky news getting ready to march. I would have gone too, they're starting it by my alma matter so I could have truly relived my student days

BadHair · 20/11/2003 15:03

I sat at the next table to Jon Snow in a restaurant the day before the last election, and he was hilarious. We were all chortling and trying to pretend that we were laughing at our own jokes not his.
Perhaps he should murder the president?

oliveoil · 20/11/2003 15:05

Pie - I know, dh phoned me at lunch and told me, 25 dead so far, 400 injured (acc to bbc website). Wonder what sort of world our children will grow up in

BadHair · 20/11/2003 15:17

Oh my god I didn't know about this when i was making flippant posts earlier.
Somehow don't think that Bush and Blair are the ones to sort this mess out either - more likely to give a knee-jerk reaction and bomb the sh*t out of iraq.
Get yer tin hats on girls we're off again.

pie · 20/11/2003 15:22

There's an American with a 4 week old baby on Sky news now...I feel like a woss!

Rhubarb · 20/11/2003 16:03

I was at an anti-Bush rally last night and learnt some very interesting facts. Did everyone know that when the statue of Saddam came toppling down, the whole thing was staged? 250 pro-war Iraqi's were flown into Baghdad to help pull down the statue. Also, the oil pipelines were the first things up and running again, they have been bombed by Iraqi militants, only to be fixed and made operational again. In the meantime there is no solid police force, hospitals are closed, some water supplies are off, etc and America is complaining of lack of finances to help get Iraq back on its feet. Short of money for humanitarian aid but not short of cash to get the oil pipes running!

pie · 20/11/2003 16:08

Thats terrible Rhubarb, but considering the main financial backers of Bush and his Daddy's connections I'm not surprised to what extent oil was the priority.

motherinferior · 20/11/2003 16:08

I feel incredibly weird realising all this is going on and I'm not joining in. I used to run the CND press office, during the 1991 Gulf Crisis and War. Now I'm hammering the deadlines at home...
