Moving to Macclesfield

DH has got a job in Macc and we are thinking of moving there.

We have dc in years 3 and 5 and would like to live somewhere where we can walk to school (primary and secondary in time), be able to walk to some shops.

We would be looking for a decent primary (am not one to get too excited about Ofsted reports!), co-ed comprehensive and to spend up to £500k on a house.

Any ideas?!

TIA

High Legh and knutsford areas are lovely. There are some lovely primary schools and Lymm High is a good school.

Macclesfield does not have a good reputation (sorry). Legacy of decades of economic decay following closed down coal fields in the area/region.

Oh Fudge, I'm an idiot, just take me out & shoot me.
Somehow I misread that as Mansfield!!!

Slaps self & swears to lay off the wine.

Hi we lived in Bollington for 3 years and I was very sad to move away. Its a lovely village with 4 primary schools. It has parks, and great pubs. You can do lovely walks from your door step.

Love it!

Hanleyhigh · 26/02/2012 20:41

Thanks!

Is there a secondary school in Bollington? If not, which one do people tend to go to?

Think the high schools are either Tytherington High or one in Macclesfield.
Prestbury is also lovely. Tytherington is also popular but has no village feel to it.

bumbums · 26/02/2012 20:46

Where are you moving from?

NinthWave · 26/02/2012 20:53

If you don't mind a bit of a commute then Wilmslow is great, lots of good primary schools and an excellent High School. Decent shops, monthly market, lovely park/river walks etc.

Moving from Stoke.

DH's job requires him to work nights/weekends etc. so would be easier to live closer rather than further away.

Not too far to go back and visit friends in Stoke. That'll ease the way. We moved to Chester.

Let me know if you find any properties you like and I can tell you my view of location!

ripsishere · 27/02/2012 07:35

Come to Warrington Grin. We're only 16 or so miles away from Macc.
You have a good amount of money to spend on a house. Look in Lymm or Appleton or Stockton Heath.

Macclesfield is great little town and we love the bit of it where we live.
If you lived in Bollington your high school would be Tytherington. Prestbury is a nice village with an excellent primary but is a bit too Cheshire set for me! I live within walking distance of Macc town centre but also close to countryside.
Fallibroome is generally seen as the "best" high school, All Hallows and Tytherington are good. Macclesfield High has struggled more over recent years but is having a lot of support in improving at the moment.
All of the high schools are in Macclesfield itself so children living in the villages would have to bus/car/bike in.
Tytherington has a nice club which is great for families.
£500k is a great budget for round here.
Good luck with the move x

ripsishere · 27/02/2012 13:33

or Kings Mac.

Hanleyhigh · 27/02/2012 14:13

Thanks!

ripishere - we're already less than 16 miles from Macc where we are! My sister lives in Lymm and I know for certain that it's not for us Smile.

Nettlemummy - great info, thanks. I like the look of some properties in Tytherington but worried that it's a big housing estate with no facilities...

Congleton, half way between macc and stoke. Good high school and primarys too. West Heath has a nice little shopping area and all are in walking distance from some beautiful housing that would suit your budget.

We used to live in macc also and while I miss it sometimes, I love living here!

My dh went to fallibroome and says it is a very good school btw!
