Would you rather pay a little more and have a ploughman's supplied half way through the evening or have cheaper tickets and bring your own nibbles?

TIA

I wouldn't mind paying but not for a ploughmans. I am snobbish about cheese though!

Can't you sell nibbles for those that want them? It is for charity after all. Also, if it is a quiz night I wouldn't want the disruption of food being served halfway through. I HATE not being able to hear the questions or having my quiz mojo disrupted.

I think having the option to buy a ploughman's is a good way to go. Keep the tickets cheap and then only those that want to eat can buy themselves some food.

senua · 24/02/2012 09:06

You can't do 'option'. Imagine (a) buying loads of food that no-one wants or (b) running out. You either do it or don't, no halfway house.

NormanTheForeman · 24/02/2012 09:08

Definitely rather bring your own nibbles. Our PTA used to do the ploughmans thing - it was a lot of faff and not many people actually liked it. Bringing your own nibbles (and drinks) means you can bring exactly what you like, and make the tickets slightly cheaper. I think you will still make about the same profit, with a lot less hassle.

NormanTheForeman · 24/02/2012 09:09

Forgot to say, ours now do bring your own, and it's very successful.

senua · 24/02/2012 09:09

Having said that, you can risk over-stocking on booze because you can take it back.
No food (less work, no worry about special diets, no worry about hygiene certs, etc) but make your profit on a bar instead?

mckenzie · 24/02/2012 09:27

thank you all. Yes, the bar option does sound better. But, we can't have people getting up for drinks during the quiz because of noise etc so we'd only be able to sell at certain points of the evening which will make the bar exceptionally busy at those times. I wonder if we'll not just do BYO food and drink and be lazy buggers. We'll still make the fully ticket price as our quiz master is doing it for free and our venue is free. Off to consult with the team.
many thanks again.

Ours has a couple of waiters/waitresses - when you want a drink you stick your hand up, and they take your order and you pay at the table.

Bar only sells wine and beer as well as a choice of soft drinks so it's not overly complicated.

We have a break half way through and have the food then. Either a curry made by the PTA or sometimes it's buffet type things again one person of the PTA makes something. I have been to a few where the PTA have done a deal with a local chip shop and everyone has had that.

Furball · 24/02/2012 11:03

someone on here does a pudding auction where the tables bid for puddings. Again the PTA make one (making sure there is enough for 1 for each table) and the winner pays the highest price.
