katymac - not sure exactly what you want, but we are going to get a jetmaster for our living room - they pump out huge amounts of heat apparently

Freckle · 26/01/2006 16:55

Are you sure you want a woodburning stove? I originally wanted one of these but then realised that, not only would I have to clean it out every morning and ensure I had an adequate supply of logs, but I'd have to wait for it to catch and build up steam before it would chuck out heat. Also, you can't just turn it off when you want. So in the end I went for one of these , which looks just as good but is a lot less hard work.

I want a wood burner that can run a central heating system

I can't see if Jetmaster can do this

I already have a wood burner and have had for over 4 years - it is on everyday in the winter (DH does all that)

What fuel should I use?

No gas in the village
Oil is twice the price now as it was 5 yrs ago and getting more expensive
Night storage heaters are uneconomical and unecological

I like wood burners. When I was younger, the whole house was heated by the aga! (With a back boiler, obviously).
When I bought my house a couple of years ago, we had to get rid of the massive wood burner and back boiler because the house is now in a designated 'smoke free' area (but makes me wonder how ecologically sound wood burning is?).
I'd have one through choice too

littlemissbossy · 26/01/2006 17:55

Glad you've finally got it sorted katymac - we've two woodburners and love them both.
Freckle - clean out every morning I don't LOL

geekgrrl · 26/01/2006 18:14

We've just had one one of these put in (Christmas present from my lovely parents). The soapstone stores all the heat and gives it off throughout the day like a huge radiator. Am finding the messing about with wood a bit of a pain though, but it's saving us lots of money off our leccy bill (our other heating is electric)

Lulabell · 26/01/2006 18:14

If you burn only wood, without coal etc, then environmentally the effects of burning it are cancelled out by the good it did when growing iyswim. The solid Fuel association www.solidfuel.co.uk has a bit about it i think.

geekgrrl · 26/01/2006 18:15

oh, and ours can be used in a smoke free zone because of the effective combustion apparently.

littlemissbossy · 26/01/2006 18:17

Wow geekgirl, what a fab fire/pressie - great parents

geekgrrl · 26/01/2006 18:17

aren't they just?

Enid · 26/01/2006 18:23

cant recommend clearview highly enough

we have this one and it is fabby

Enid · 26/01/2006 18:24

freckle I clean mine out every couple of days but it couldnt be easier - you just take the tray out and chuck itin the bin/compost.

It takes approx 15 mins to get really really hot and start chucking out heat.

katymac · 26/01/2006 18:25

Does it do hot water?

Really good news Katymac ! Ours is being fitted on 14th February and I can't wait.

katymac · 26/01/2006 18:29

Ow - I hate you Kittypickle - with all the work I need - I can't have mine until mid summer

We're having the Evergreen Elm (without the brass balls ) basically because I found a little place in town who sells only Evergreen ones at really good prices. The chimney needs lining, with that, the fitting, fixing a chunk of wood on the fireplace and the hearth needs building out a bit and covering in slate tiles. The whole thing including stove is coming to £1300, which was loads less than the others so I'm really happy.
Bet you though that the weather gets loads warmer the minute it's in!

katymac · 29/01/2006 20:13

Of course the weather will warm up (but you can light it anyway)
