tesco.com cheapest by far.

chjlly · 25/01/2006 20:43

I'm with Liverpool Victoria - Although I have an imported vehicle & can only use a selected few insurers but the did beat Tesco by 50%

kid · 25/01/2006 20:44

We used confused.com too, they found the best price for us.

Don't be afraid to ask an insurer to beat an offer from another company, I find they can usually offer you something better. (then go back to the first one and see what they can do! )

Janh · 25/01/2006 20:45

We have 1 with Tesco and 1 with Asda (Tesco effectively refused to insure second car because we had just claimed on 1st - they quoted about £1500 )

Have a look at Moneysaving Martin

Hi btw

Hulababy · 25/01/2006 20:46

Both mine and DH's car insurance is with Direct Line. Got cheapest quotes with them than the others we tried.

NB we have an interesting collection of points between us (well, the ones we owned up to) and also have DDs insured to drive mine as learners. So bloody expensive all round really

PiccadillyCircus · 25/01/2006 20:50

We're with Churchill

Milliways · 25/01/2006 20:50

We were with Norwich Union or years, then DH got cheaper quote with Hastings Direct, who were also cheapest for me last year.

Going Direct to Norwich Union Direct was cheaper than the quote from confused.com btw.

Avalon · 25/01/2006 20:50

E-sure. Online and much cheaper than AA.

munz · 25/01/2006 20:51

and we claim the points back as well!

Janh · 25/01/2006 20:55

Has anybody else here not been 100% truthful about their points?

munz · 25/01/2006 20:59

(I ment tesco points) or do u mena NCB? I was gonna try claiming 2 years but tescos asked for the letter from my prev insurance company.

Janh · 25/01/2006 21:02

speeding points, munz

munz · 25/01/2006 21:03

ooh sorry erm norwich union actually they already knew about the points b4 I told them don't know how when I rang to get a new quote the man said ooh yes we know u have 3! I did wonder how they knew, so thought best to be honest witih tescos! lol.

shelley85 · 25/01/2006 22:44

First Alternative for us.

Everyone else wanted £100+ more!

The next cheapest was Direct Line.

Pfer · 26/01/2006 10:27

tesco saved us £130.

GDG · 26/01/2006 10:36

Mine - esure
Dh's - direct line

Mine was Tesco before and they are cheap but when it came to renewal last year esure were cheaper. Will be doing mine again soon.

wannaBe1974 · 26/01/2006 12:23

The way companies know what points you have is because a lot of their systems are linked to the DVLA computer, so when you ring up to insure your car and they put in your registration number it comes up with the vehicle details and who it's registered to etc, it's possible that if the registered owner/keeper has points on their licence that comes up as well. I used to work for the AA and this system was being implemented when I left. It's not adviseable to lie about your points, because if you have an accident and it comes to light that you've lied about it then the insurance company could void your policy and refuse to pay out on a claim. It's unlikely that they would, but I have known it to happen

Kelly1978 · 26/01/2006 12:30

janh - dp managed to get away with not tellign about points. They cleared now, but they never realised. He did have to make a claim once too.

ours is with elephant.

serenity · 26/01/2006 12:38

I'm with Esure, I get a discount because I have family who work there

I'm going to try Sheila's Wheels but they are actually underwritten by Esure so not sure if that will make a difference?

My biggest barrier against swapping insurers is that I pay by DD, but most places seem to want a big downpayment when they set up a new policy, which I can't manage. Does anyone know which insurance companies don't do this?

mumfor1sttime · 26/01/2006 12:47

I havent tried Sheilas wheels, didnt bother because Diamond (For women) are more than one Im with.

I found Budget to be the cheapest.
