Question for all you outside light people, (stupid probably) how do you plug them in? Do you have to drill holes in window frames and things?

janh · 30/11/2003 20:50

We usually get ours the Saturday before the Saturday before Christmas - then it sits outside in a bucket of water for a bit before it comes in and gets decorated.

Comes down on 12th night but I know what coddy means, it does look a bit empty and pointless after the 25th.

We have lights outside our house and I love them. Want some at the top as well....icicle ones but its just such a pain getting them up and then down again! Neighbour across has so many lights I dont need to turn my inside ones on at night..lol

Beccarollo · 30/11/2003 21:33

DId you have a good meetup coddy and beetroot?

mears · 01/12/2003 22:42

Well I do like to have decorations up till 12th day of Christmas, have to say. Next door likes to take theirs down early too. I don't see the point of being in such a haste and finishing early - reminds me of something else actually

Angeliz · 01/12/2003 23:48

Coddy, haven't read all messages, but we moved last year into a house with a big Christmas tree outside the kitchen doors! We put lots of lights on it and it was GREAT! Will be doing it again soon....can't wait

Angeliz · 01/12/2003 23:52

ooohhh now i see some of you have them out, i'll be in the attic tomorrow
(not for any reason, i just like it up there)

Bozza · 02/12/2003 09:27

Not buying Christmas tree until 12-14 Dec weekend because of needle drop but might put some other bits out beforehand - eg garland on fireplace. Have never considered outside lights but might be nice. Will speak to DH.

codswallop · 02/12/2003 10:03

LOl... the flex comes in our bedroom window and then the window (plastic my dears) can shut with only a few Mm to spare - good to keep dh's smells down.

soooooooooooo, I can turn them on and off from bed!

the blue ones are great

We normally put our flex in through our garage but its being converted into another room so no room for flex to go through. Will have to try and put them all through upstairs window like you do codswallop and leave window open. Only problem is my bedroom window keeps getting a lot of condensation on it for some reason.

SoupDragon · 02/12/2003 10:16

I can shut our downstairs window on top of the flex for the lights. I guess it's because they're old wooden windows with that foam strip insulation tape on the edges.

bobsmum · 02/12/2003 10:16

We would normally put our decorations up the week of Christmas (20th/21st Dec ish) and leave them till the 6th.

But we tend to spend the Christmas fortnight at my parents so there's not much point in having a tree if we won't see it

We do a have a gorgeous big fabric advent calendar though and I smuggled in some teeny £1.50 fairy lights from Ikea which are currently draped around some willow (or 'the dead things" as dh likes to call them).

3GirlsMum · 02/12/2003 10:17

Ive just bought some of the icicle lights for the top of my house, they are really cheap at Asda. Just have to persuade my DH to get up a ladder and put them up now!
