Cut DS2's hair, now he looks like a monk

DH said there was no point taking toddler to a hairdresser but he's been looking disturbingly like Wurzel Gummidge recently so I bought a hairdressing scissors and gave him a haircut this morning. Having cut the fringe I realised I'd gone too short and shouldn't have cut over the ears, then it was freaky fringe and mullet, so I had to cut the back as well. Oh dear. He looks so sweet if a bit like an alien. Must stick to my day job. Ps I am not a hairdresser by profession.

Sympathy. Another monk here, or a cult member. Vulcan style fringe. Next time will pay someone and not let husband near the scissors. Apologized to nursery and response from lady after carefully looking at him from all angles 'well, hair grows back doesn't it?'.

Yes there's been a lot of "at least it'll grow back". Poor child. One benefit though is that DD and DS1 seem to be much more enthused by the idea of going to the hairdresser/barber...

You are not alone. Two weeks ago I gave DS his first haircut. I can only imagine this is what someone looks like when they have been prepared for a frontal lobotomy operation.Blush

I have informed DH that there is a complete media blackout over our house for at least 6 weeks to avoid any incriminating photographic evidence surfacing in 18 years time.

Girls' hair is so easy!

Get a pair of proper hair clippers and go over it all with a grade 6 - DH did DS (14months) yesterday and it looks fine Grin

Take toddler to barber on a week day. Decent cut in 5 minutes and for a fiver.

Ranelaghmammy · 12/02/2012 22:16

Now you see I would just love to do the week day thing but I work full time and I just can't delegate that to the childminder. It doesn't seem right to have someone else take my childbfor a haircut. That said after today's Vulcan experience (thanks Samvet) maybe I'd better get over those sensibilities for the sake of the child Blush

Did this the other week to DS1 on a whim using kitchen scissors. Resulting trim was so terribly lopsided had to take him to the local barbers to get it sorted. Also kept finding hair everywhere (in butter dish bleurgh!) for days after.

Very false economy thinking I could cut it at home to save a few pounds... ended up tipping the barber £3 cos I was so ashamed of the crappy job he had to sort out so the new 'do' cost me £8 :(

You shouldn't have shaved off that circle on top of his head

Hopstheduck · 13/02/2012 11:40

put some layers in the sides!

i do all the boys hair, and dhs. It gets easier with practice.

Came home today to find that DH had taken DS2 to the barber. He now has a suede head and looks like a bovver boy. Or the makings of one.

I think I preferred the Vulcan look.
