what other websites do you visit - apart from MN?

Just wondering... I personally have found Mumsnet to be entertaining, engaging, supportive and informative. Is there anything else out there that you love to visit - for whatever reason?

What?! and let everyone see just what a bunch of Walter Mittys we all are?!

3GirlsMum · 16/11/2003 15:26

Do you parenting sites or just any site in general?

Hilary · 16/11/2003 18:24

I also go to www.christianmums.com a lot. A smaller site but brilliant just the same.

Cha · 16/11/2003 21:43

No,just any old website. I don't know about you, but I find the internet very dull (apart from good ole MN that is) and can never quite see how people spend hours surfing. But that's sure to be because I don't look in the right places. Walter Mitty? Who's he??

Childfun.com I like the activities for small children on it

handlemecarefully · 17/11/2003 08:49

babyworld - but I find it fairly dull by comparison

JulieF · 17/11/2003 15:05

I have to admit I use babyworld a lot, I used to use their live chat and it got me through a very difficult postnatal period with dd when I was stuck in the house all day on my own.

Can I give a plug here for netmums They are all local sites with local info for parents edited by local mums (like me)

3GirlsMum · 17/11/2003 15:07

Almost embarrased to admit that I pop into Yahoo Towers! fairly frequently...that game is so addictive.

handlemecarefully · 17/11/2003 15:10

Have just checked out netmums - disappointed that they haven't got a site for Southampton yet because its quite a big city! Couldn't find anything for Salisbury either (I live between the two)

Cha · 17/11/2003 15:36

I've heard of netmums before - I just tried to register but as usual, whenever I try to do these things, there is always something the registering process doesn't like about me...... and I can't get in. Hey ho, destined to remain faithful to Mumsnet forever.

I used to use Babyworld a lot bu now I only visit my antenatal group every couple of weeks or so. Also used to use Raising Kids (heard about MN through it) but don't go there anymore either - not enough time after spending so long on here

I do use the net quite a bit. I do a lot of surfing for info for my job - teach ICT to secondary school kids. I also use it for booking holidays and concert tickets, etc. Just got back from holiday in France all of which was booked on-line; and my dad and I have just booked our next summer's holiday to Disney, Florida too.

wiltshire · 17/11/2003 16:14

I used to use the internet for banking, finding better credit card rates and instead of 192. Plus recieving and sending ridiculous emails to everyone I know.

Now I spend all of my spare time on MN and even mention it in conversation. It's like an old mate who is still the same even if you haven't seen them for years. I am either very sad due to being at home on Mat leave or I ain't got no mates. I did say that I would get rid of the internet when I had baby, now I am getting rid of it when I go back to work (yeah some hope) I will be on here contributing to whatever 'going back to work' thread is running at the time.

tinyfeet · 17/11/2003 16:41

Am I the only one who is also addicted to ebay??

pie · 17/11/2003 16:56

tinyfeet, I'm an ebay addict too. Other that that I do go to another site, for mums who like to argue with each other. They are quite insane.

charlize · 17/11/2003 20:54

I have visited uk parents a few times, as a lurker I hasten to add.
The debating forum can get very heated there, also the attachmebt parenting forum on ukp was extreme to say the least.
The whole site seems intolerant of one another. Wheras mumsnet is much more of an understanding community. I have honestly seen threads on ukp about such trivial topics degenerate into unpleasantness and cattiness.

SimonHoward · 17/11/2003 21:06

Well as it is a family site I won't post some of the odder ones I have run into but here are some I look at regularly.

Lycos Chat
eBay
Baen SciFi and Fantasy books
Dilbert comic strips
Play DVD and CD sales
Games Workshop
Forge World Resin Models

Cha · 18/11/2003 16:06

My SIL does ebay - what is it? If it involves spending money, then I'd best steer well clear. The ukp sounds a laugh, in a voyeuristic kind of way, shall do some lurking.

"forge world resin models"!!!?

tinyfeet · 18/11/2003 17:01

Cha, ebay does involve spending money, but usually bargains on used items. You can also sell, it's an auction site. Check it out!!

codswallop · 18/11/2003 17:01

HMc are you looking for toddler groups in salisbury?

SimonHoward · 18/11/2003 17:57

Codswallop

In my 'Spare Time' I do make models and paint them.

Bit like Train Spotting really. Most people never admit to it but to those involved it can be fun.
