Recently I read a thread where a good few here were unsure about moving their car seat from one car to another.
I had never thought much about it until yesterday when I was out with dd. My car was involved in an accident(both are fine, no one was hurt) but I had to be towed home by AA.

The AA guy said I needed to move the car seat as he had no idea what to do with them. I meant to ask him if it was policy not to be allowed to move the seat themselves or if it was just him but thought that might have seemed a bit rude.

My dh has no idea about our car seat as he never has to move it, so I am going to make sure he does now or else he would be in a bit of a pickle.

Just thought others should know this.

make sure you claim for a new car seat from your insurence.

My dh also would have no idea, the instructions for ours are on the seat so I would hope that would be helpful - after all how does he think I learnt how to fit it!

all being sorted out fine, and fast, thankfully.

the instructions are on the back of our as well, but I can just imagine dh getting all stressed if something like this happened. Not the best time to try and learn how to put a seat in

Tbh I'm not surprised that the AA man wouldn't know how to move every car seat available on the market. Especially if he didn't have kids himself.

Far more worried that your dh wouldn't know how to do it though. Does he never have the kids in the car by himself then?

Carameli · 20/01/2006 08:53

he does but then he just takes dd in my car and I can use his if I need to. Less hassle than taking it out and then putting it back usually.

We have isofix so it is really easy. Not sure if Dh would know how to fit the second stage seat as a non-isofix verson though.

Well, I confess I cannot fit my car seat, dh does it for me and checks it too. I know I SHOULD know how but even trying to follow the sticker on the side I struggle. This scenario worries me though and I will be making a conscious effort to become au fait with it.

LIZS · 20/01/2006 11:50

Might be an insurance issue for AA not to move it, like car hire companies.

Flamesparrow · 20/01/2006 12:07

Slightly different subject... DH knows how to fit it etc, but he never seems to tighten the straps enough for my liking - how do I broach the subject without him getting all stroppy and assuming I'm telling him he doesn't care about his child???

Carameli · 20/01/2006 13:45

if dh ever does something that I think is not quite right I just do it the same way at first and then say something like, "oops silly mummy(while talking to dd) hasn't ......
I try to make a bit of a joke about it.

If it was the car seat straps it depends on how old you ds/dd is. Could you say you had left them loose one day and they had wriggled out a bit. Might just make him think about making sure they were tight enough.

My dd is 2 and a few months ago managed to do this while I was driving.
