My knees and ankles click all the time - I long ago gave up on the idea of a career as a cat burglar cos I'd just make too much noise!

Seriously though - the doctor told me noise on it's own wasn't a problem, I should only worry if it was painful. It's embarrassing though when people turn and stare and say "was that YOU?"

Yes, my knees click and always have done. Sometimes they feel like they are out of joint but I just bend and straighten the leg a few times and it clicks into place.

Click, creak, crunch, grind...

Do you walk up and down stairs hermykne? I started getting knee discomfort and then pain (only mild clicking though) in about October and I realised that pre-ds (before April) I had done lots of flights of stairs in the normal course of my day, but post-ds I didn't use them at all, lots of walking but no stepping up and down. Once I made an effort to run up and down some stairs a few times a week it 'ungummed' my knees almost immediately.

I've always been vaguely clicky, just occasionally (though I could click all my knuckles together most cringe-makeingly ), but when ds was a few months old my knees started clicking and grinding, and hurting. Neither GP nor specialist could work out what was wrong, but a physio instantly diagnosed...fallen arches!

Nothing fundamentaly wrong with my knees at all, but delightful pregnancy hormones plus weight-gain had caused my arches to collapse, which in turn was putting strain on my knees and pulling the kneecap out of position when I moved.

Several sessions of phsyio and Birkenstock sandals later, the problem cleared up. But it always comes back if I wear shoes without decent arch-supports, or walk barefoot without remember to arch my feet.

I have a clicky left ankle from having broken it. It also tricks out and sprains easily b/c the ligaments are loose. It's no big deal if it's not painful.
