Just that really, he has motor function development problems, so he can sit up (aided) but lays down most of the time, he can grip but his co-ordination etc is that of a 6mth old really.

He is two soon and i dont want to buy him clothes again, but dont want to offend by buying something that is age specific for a 6 month old. (Also, he is clearly quite an intelligent little boy, but just cant move as he'd like).

Any ideas? Maybe im being too sensitive about it.

Can you ask his mum if there's anything he'd like?

Well, she always buys my two such fab and appropriate pressies, id like to be able to without asking.

I bought a musical instrument set from ELC for a friend's DS who has CP (can't remember exactly what age he was at the time, but 2-ish). It had various shakers/tambourine type things in it. My (NT) dd1 was bought something similar when she was a baby (so it might say '6 months and over' or something on it) but she's now 5 and her and dd2 still bring them out occasionally and 'make music'(in the very loosest sense of the term!) with them.

Staying with the musical theme, you could buy a tape or CD, either music or stories or both. There are some lovely ones out there.

If he can sit up with help, then something like megabloks/duplo might be OK (and he could still stick bits of it together to make towers and such like, or just chuck it about the place) when lying down.

Or you could go with the soft toy option. It doesn't have to be a girlie teddy... I'm sure you can get soft Bob the Builders, or Barneys or whatever. We had a (bl**dy annoying...!) Barney with a hat that twirled round and played songs (it became a fireman's hat, a bus driver's hat and a farmer's hat) depending on which hat was at the front. Annoying, but both dds liked it. In fact, they had one in hospital recently and dd2 was still fascinated enough by it not to notice that they were sticking a cannula in her hand!

HTH
