My friend and I have decided to make this the year we watch classic movies like Gone with the Wind that we've never seen. We thought of a few but what do you consider to be a classic movie? Old and new.

citizen Kane - real classic
Cinema Paradiso - wonderful and lots of other films use themes from it
Amelie - not that old, I know, but one of my favourites
Casablanca - great
Rear Window - my favourite Hitchcock movie and Grace Kelly is just luminous in it
This is Spinal Tap - well, goes without saying
It's a wonderful life - if you didn't watch it at Christmas!
Some like it hot - silly but Marilyn is just so great
The Godfather - another classic
Blimey, I could go on all night!

Meggmoo - I really liked The Pledge, it was a powerful film and it really stayed with me for ages. Jack Nicholson was so good in it. And I also love Manon de Sources and Jean de Florette. Bladerunner is another quite influential film and it's so atmospheric. I'm not so keen on Breakfast at Tiffany's - sorry to admit that Audrey gets on my nerves, style icon though she certainly is - and the moral side of her job is neatly sidestepped (bit like Pretty Woman!!). I saw a really creepy thriller called The Vanishing the other day - it's a Belgian film (avoid the US remake) and it's truly disturbing. And I do love Moulin Rouge - completely over the top and in your face but I can't get enough of the first twenty minutes - especially in a cinema!
