Rear facing pushchair - which ones?

katzg · 14/01/2006 18:39

With DD1 i had my mamas and papas 2 in 1 in the rear facing mode all the time, which we both loved but i now don't need the hugeness of this one!! so would ideally like a smaller rear facing pushchair for DD2 who's now 7 months.

the only ones i've seen are the loola and the quiny buzz

my budget is a max of £250

what would you recommend?

Lots of nice second hand ones of Ebay which are rear facing - search for that term. I've got one and I love it!

katzg · 14/01/2006 19:07

tried that and only got 1

what make is your puschair

Rear facing are really hard to find - we went for an xplory in the end which is great - you might be able to get one on Ebay within your budget.

I would have gone for the loola as it's fairly lightweight and folds well - only drawback for me was that the handles were too low (I'm quite tall).

Hauck / I'coo do a rear facing one - I think it's the infinity which I think is in your price range.

I didn't really like the buzz tbh - it seemed really wide and when I tried it out in the shop, just going over a very small display step made it tip.

mumatuks · 14/01/2006 20:39

Go with the Loola, its great.

I've got one and wouldn't be without it!

mumatuks · 14/01/2006 20:42

Meant to add, you don't have to spend the full £225, you can pick them up little used for about £100!! I got mine as an ex-demo for £75! (think it was a lucky fluke I got it that low!)

My son is also 7 months, its an excellent size width ways and length ways for a growing baby.

katzg · 14/01/2006 21:01

yep lightwieght if poss.

i've heard mixed reviews of the loola - is folding it just a knack?

OP posts:
mumatuks · 14/01/2006 21:05

The folding is great, no probs.

The only thing I would complain about is the harness, it seems very cheap, but that is my only complaint.

If you're near me you're welcome to have a look at ours before you go out and buy one!

katzg · 14/01/2006 21:24

thanks - i've had a quick look in john lewis today but there was no one around to help and i couldn't work out how to fold it! looking on ebay the hauch icoo inifinty looks nice, just need to pop over to toysrus to have a look at it in the flesh and see how small it folds. i really want a bar to push not seperate handles because when i'm holding my toddlers hadn the bar is much easier to stear

mumatuks · 14/01/2006 21:34

I know what you mean about a single handle and toddler. I have a 2y/o and a 7 month old!

With the loola, you have two slides on the side that lock the front wheels. Then pull up the big grey handle on the back. Then push in the two grey buttons on the handles and it just slides down to very small size! AS you pick it up by the grey handle for carrying the lock on the side goes into place and clicks it together.

Its a tough choice to make and helluva lot of money to spend!

Can I just ask whyu John Lewis's? I've seen /heard so many mums buying buggys/ prams from there but IMO its bloody expensive! Is it outstanding service or am I just poor and can't afford them! (joke!)

mumatuks · 14/01/2006 21:39

Should say actually, the loola isn't able to take a buggy board. We went to an independant shop who sold all types of BB's and none would fit, so not worth it if you wanted one of these.

must remember to put everything in one message! Sorry Katzg.

katzg · 14/01/2006 21:41

john lewis here just has a good selection of prams, i'm going to buy from ebay!! plus the staff when you can find one seem to know what they are doing!

katzg · 14/01/2006 21:41

thanks fro you help - can see me getting the loola because i doubt DH will be seen dead pushing a bright pink pushchair!

mumatuks · 14/01/2006 21:51

Ah right! thanks for clearing that up for me about John Lewis! It wasn't anything against you going there, its just something that's baffled me for a while!

If you want the Loola covers in 02 Blue (azur) I have some. I got them with the original Loola, which is unfortunately broken, they sent a replacement with the red colour I wanted, and then said I could keep the others! I haven't got around to ebaying them yet.

If you do get the loola, they do a parasol which comes with a clamp. Take the clamp off and then on the buggy, just by the slides I was telling you about there is a clip that pings out (both sides) the parasol just clips on. No falling off or working loose!

I should get a job for these people promoting the buggies!

katzg · 14/01/2006 21:56

thanks for your help, can buy anything new until i've sold me old pram though!

i'coo infinity is not small when folded. i can go fold mine and tell you the measure ments if you want.

but its lovely to push, dd3 loves being in it, it lies resonably flat, easy to adjust. i steer it whilst keeping hold of dd2, and no major problems so far.

katzg · 14/01/2006 22:02

how small is not small? i currently have a mamas and papas 2 in 1 with the mpx chassis which fills the boot of our escort,

thanks for offering to fold and measure, think will go and see one.

OP posts:
katzg · 14/01/2006 22:03

how old is your dd? and how old do you think she'll be before shes outgrown it?

sorry lots of questions

OP posts:
misdee · 14/01/2006 22:04

probably smaller than the m an p, but even tho it says it can fold with the seat unit attached mine always come undone, so end up with 2 parts. it takes up less room than my old motercare pram, but slightly more than phil and teds e3.

misdee · 14/01/2006 22:05

dd3 is 10.5months old, is small but long. she looks like a little dot in it. her legs are nowhere near the foot rest yet.

katzg · 14/01/2006 22:06

we have to put the m and p in in 2 bits! it won't go in the boot that often as i walk everywhere anyway! its just for storing in the hall. does it stand up by itself okay, when folded?

OP posts:
katzg · 14/01/2006 22:07

thanks for answering all this.

one more what was your reason for chosing it?

oh one more which colour have you got?

OP posts:
misdee · 14/01/2006 22:07

never really fold mine inside, it gets used a lot when i am home. and i have a wide hallway. itstands ok if my dd2 doesnt fall into it.

katzg · 14/01/2006 22:09

ahh so it wouldn't pass the toddler shove test then

OP posts:
misdee · 14/01/2006 22:10

i saw one on holiday and liked it. was tempted to buy there and then. but searched ebay, and got mine for a bargain price. its blue.

i just liked to way it could be forwards and rear facing, has car seat adapters if ineeded them (dd3 doesnt use the car seat anymore, but maybe future babies will), can lie flat, and is easy to steer. and the adjustable handle bar. my 3yr old pushes it home from school but i help her steer.
